Benson rolls

I've been thinking a lot about Benson and how well he performed this weekend in overtime.  First, how shocked were you that he was even in the game the first series of overtime?  Then, that the Lions weren't in a max-run protect like has been the case when CB comes in was pretty amazing too.

Result: holes, space, and a Cedric Benson break out!!  He only rushed for 35 yards, but 33 were on two consecutive plays in overtime.

Thankfully, Thomas Jones will be playing this week.  But with his injury status and after Cedric's OT performance, it's my hope that he gets some more reps in practice and continues to impress.  Hopefully he gets some more holes like he saw against the Lions.

Benson seems uptight
And I can't blame him.  He should feel pretty poor watching AP in before him.  I understand the coaches need to work him in and I think it's making him play a little stiff.

He finally just played in OT and had great results.  It's just a few carries, but hopefully this will be his springboard to productivity.

He did look good in OT - I could get used to seeing that.

I just hope Jones isn't running it 30 times.  The timing is right for Benson to play a bit more and protect Jones a little bit.  I can't wait to have the real 1-2 punch.

Would be nice
but I can't see it happening for more than the rest of this season.  Jones signed on to be our number 1, if we are not going to commit to him, then it could cause problems.  Not only will he be an expensive backup, like Benson is now, he could cause problems.  If Benson is going to be our starter, trade Jones and keep AP as the backup.

AP is a #3
I agree that it will be hard to have both as featured backs.  Jones is one tough SOB, but I don't think he can pound it out 20-30 carries per game and keep on fighting through injuries.

Just like last year with ATrain, it was great to have another masher to run over opposing D in the second half.  For this team to be successful, even after this season, they must run at least 30 times a game.  That's right where they are now, and I get a bit nervous seeing just 1 guy being the man every week.

They have the cap room, even with another WR next year and hopefully some depth at CB in the future as well.

Oops...
Just as you speak Peterson breaks out.  Granted it was just the 49ers.
