Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Bears/Packers Quotes

Here is what some of the Bears had to say about the game.  Head over to PackerNews if you also want to see what the Pack had to say.

Bears' Coach Lovie Smith

On the turnovers created by the Bears: "The turnovers were big. (Safety) Chris Harris had two interceptions. I like the way that the defense finished the game at the end there because Green Bay had a little momentum going. It is tough to win on the road at anytime, especially when you are playing against a team like Green Bay with Brett Favre quarterbacking."

On his team's first-half offensive success: "That is what a team is all about right there. You never know what group will have to step up on any given Sunday. It was great to see the offense do that. It was good to see the defense finish the job at the end. It was a great team effort, a great team win."

On whether he has been surprised by the Packers' disappointing season: "I thought they have fought back hard. I thought Mike Sherman did a great job of bringing his team back. They are out of the playoffs, and look at the way they played today. I thought their coaching staff did a great job, and I thought their players fought until the end."

Bears' quarterback Rex Grossman

On the key to winning the division: "I think the big thing is how well our defense played. We are ranked first in almost every category, and anytime you have a great defense like that, that dominates the other team, it gives you a chance to win, no matter what you do on offense. When you add in a top-10 running game in the NFL, it gets a lot of wins."

On the Bears' downfield passing attack: "That was our game plan going in. We saw on tape that their safeties come down low for run support, and we just used Bernard's (Berrian) speed and our protection to get a couple of plays downfield."

On whether he felt rusty in his first start of the season: "Obviously, I think I would have been further along if I had played the whole season, but it is what it is, and I went out there and tried to do my best."

Bears' linebacker Lance Briggs

On his 10-yard interception return for a touchdown: "It was a Cover 1, a simple defense. I stayed outside leverage as the fullback went to the flat. I didn't think he was going to throw it. He threw it, and I went and grabbed it and scored."

On what it means to clinch the division in Green Bay: "It was big. This is Green Bay. I don't think I really need to say the magnitude of winning in Green Bay and clinching our division in Green Bay. This is the Packers, our biggest rival."

Bears' free safety Chris Harris

On his performance, which included two interceptions and a big hit on Packers receiver Donald Driver: "It was an up-and-down day for me. I had some missed tackles. I have to get back to practice and work on technique."

i'm probably not
the only one who's thinking this but i'm really happy rex kept the attention on the d, which it really deserves. granted, there were lapses, but rex knows we go wherever we go based on our d, not necessarily his play.
p.s. number 87 needs to do some serious soul-searching this week

Olin Kruetz...
Any word on his ankle?  I saw him get rolled up but he came back later.  I say sit him next week.  That way he get three weeks off.

Here's my list of should sit for week 17:

Thomas Jones (play one half only)
Mike Brown
Brian Urlacher
Lance Briggs
Tillman
Vasher
Olin

who plays center? If you are throwing out backup offensive lineman do you throw Grossman out there?
Say it with me now "The first place Chicago Bears." Now doesn't that just make you feel warm all over.

Garza
he came in for Olin for a few plays.  I think Garza is a great backup and I have no problem with him out there.

How bout that pass rush?
They were having an inconsistent night until the stakes were raised on the final drive of the game. Then they stepped it up a notch at a time when Brett Farve usually would be picking apart the Bears D. The two sacks were HUGE, knocking the Pack back ~18yds forcing the 4th and long (22?) where Chris Harris was able to seal it with the pick.

On the topic of resting, they should rest:
Olin Kreutz
Jerry Azumah
Mike Brown
Ian Scott

Play the first string the first half, back-ups in the second. And I want to see KO handing off to Cedric in the second half.

I was saying Boo-urns

The vikings
haven't proven to be all that moral, so I don't want to take the chance.  If Grossman is out there, our full line needs to be out there.  Maybe one or two series and then pull them.
