With Brandon Lloyd leaving, what was formerly a big hole in the 49ers offense is now a gaping chasm. Alex Smith may not have done too well last year, but he sure didn't get any help. Having a blazing fast tight end who is also fairly big gives Smith a great dumpoff option when plays break down, which happens often with most young quarterbacks.
