Bears Rank 13th

ESPN.com has their preseason power rankings up, with the Bears way down the middle of the pack at number 13.

The Bears gave up only 12.6 points per game last season and the defense might have to be just as good this year if they want to go back to the playoffs.

With the Seahawks(1), Panthers(5), Cowboys(7), Redskins(10), and Giants(11) as the NFC teams ranking ahead of the Bears. Now I may be mistaken, but can't the defense afford be 75% as good as they were last year, and have the offense be only 20% better and we would still be a lot better of a team than last year.

Seemingly
everybody but Bears fans can see how our offense can improve, but nobody else does.

to their (limited) credit...
They didn't put any other NFC North teams ahead of us. I was half expecting to see Minnesota in front of us. Let them underrate us, it takes the pressure off the team. Being a Cub fan, I can attest that high expectations bring a lot of pressure.

6th
in the NFC.  I think that's were we belong - for now.  Until we can prove that we can score more than 13 points a game it's a fair ranking.  It also puts us ahead of the Lions, Pack and Vikes.  So playoffs are in sight.

You can't rank them on potential
Until we see an improvement in the offense the ranking fits. I am confident they will be much better this year so who cares what ESPN thinks. August 11th we will get a little look at it.

agree and disagree
While I agree with you that we are ranked correctly, I disagree about ranking on potential.  Until anyone plays a game, that's all you can rank them on.

No one else sees it
but us.  or at least, some of us.  I guess I'm being optimistic, but I think we'll have abterring ram 1-2 RB punch, grossman will be elague average at worst (and healthy) and bradley will be adequate at #2 with berrian pressing him for time.  I like the line and I only wish we had drafted a TE.  I think the offense can be pretty decent.  Am I alone?

better
I would say that with a healthy bradley and grossman we will be MUCH better.

We have never gotten
national respect, save since the mid to late 80s. And that's understood. I agree about no pressure. Dr. Z, the genius, ranked the Bears 32nd last year and that worked out pretty well. But until the offense proves anything, or that Grossman can stay on the field, we are ranked right where we should be. Besides, who really cares about preseason rankings? Fun for fodder, sure, but let me see the power rankings after week 8 or so.
