SI.com Offseason report cards

Jeffri Chadiha of si.com (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/jeffri_chadiha/07/26/offseason.grades/index.html?cnn=y es) tallied his offseason report card for all teams and gave the Bears a C-, citing chemistry issuses with Briggs, Vasher, and Jones.  I doubt that Briggs and Vasher will have a bad attitude, but I wouldn't put it past Jones to speak out if Benson gets a larger portion of the carries this year.  I'm not really sure what to think b/c we didn't have a lot of needs going into to the offseason, but the apparent needs that we did have weren't addressed to many peoples satisfaction.  One of the best things we did was sign Griese to give us much needed depth at QB, but we didn't address the WR issue.  However, to be fair we have many question marks at WR and I don't fault the Bears for having faith that some of the youngsters will step up.  Needless to say, I would feel better if the Bears picked up one of the WR's that wants to be traded, such as Lelie or Porter, but I don't see that happening.  Therefore, I don't agree with a grade of C-, maybe a B-?

whatever SI
the Bears brought everybody back from a division winning team and actually have a backup QB now. The rest of the division all has new coaches, players learning new systems and far less talent. (okay Detroit has some talent on the offensive side of the ball) The Bears are light years ahead of everyone in the NFC Central.

They didn't need to make moves although I wouldn't mind another WR either because I'm not a big Mushin fan.

"actually have a backup QB now"
Well Rob, they actually have a backup AND a starter.  Unlike last year.

Well we had a starter
until the pre-season. Can we put in the Pope Mobile until the regular season?

Ain't easy being Griese
Yes we now have two NFL starting QBs which is great, either one could start the season.
I do think they could have found another receiver. I have faith in Bradley and none in Moose. Not getting a REAL tight end in the draft is what I don't get. The most glaring issue was not addressed until the undrafted free agents were signed. Lets see how they turn out if they even make the team.

Undrafted TEs
I'm pretty sure that at least one of the undrafted TEs will make the team. Our depth at that position is horrible. Desmond Howard and who? Dustin Lyman the converted LB? We all wanted Pope or Lewis, but we aren't calling the shots at Hallas Hall.

If Angelo was hoping that Pope would fall to us in the third round, then he is an ass. Arizona's pick before us that round had TE (and thus Pope) written all over it.

I would've graded our off-season a B- as well.

I was saying Boo-urns

Desmond Clark
Desmond Howard is some one else. (Think Michigan Heisman award winner and Green Bay Super Bowl Hero)

No Moose
I can't wait for Bradley and Berrian to be starting on the same field.  Muhsin is maddening with all the drops.  (I would have loved to have watched Orton get into his face after dropping a sure TD pass last year)

I know there's no #1 without #87, but I like the other WR's we have a lot more.
