Grossman in perspective

This is from Len Pasquarelli's Insider Tip Sheet and much of an eye opener, I thought.

* The list: Chicago quarterback Rex Grossman's regular-season passer rating of 73.9 is the worst for a Super Bowl starter since John Elway of Denver went into Super Bowl XXIV after the 1989 season with an efficiency mark of 73.7. But Grossman is actually in pretty good company. Here are the Super Bowl starters who had worse efficiency ratings than Grossman, and please note that seven of them are Hall of Fame members: Vince Ferragamo, Rams, 49.0 (Super Bowl XIV); Terry Bradshaw, Steelers, 55.2 (Super Bowl IX); David Woodley, Dolphins, 63.5 (Super Bowl XVII); Bart Starr, Packers, 64.4 (Super Bowl II); Johnny Unitas, Colts, 65.1 (Super Bowl V); Tony Eason, Patriots, 67.5 (Super Bowl XX); Len Dawson, Chiefs, 69.9 (Super Bowl IV); Bob Griese, Dolphins, 71.6 (Super Bowl VII); Joe Namath, Jets, 72.1 (Super Bowl III); Jim Plunkett, Raiders, 72.9 (Super Bowl XV); and Elway, Broncos, 73.7 (Super Bowl XXIV).

Pfffshh ... FACTS???
You come here with facts?  Statistics?  Perspective?  I want my talking points!  I want my narrative!  I want tubby dumb f'ing white-men who don't comb their hair to tell me that Rex is the worst QB EVAH to play the Super Bowl.  I want Dr. Z to elaborate on his mancrush of Peyton Manning.  I want Sean Salisbury and the jackoffs at Fox Sports Radio to talk about how the Colts will kill us.

You, your facts, and reality can take a hike, my friend!

stats.....
I've been hearing this talk on the radio about this worst QB in the Super Bowl B.S. There must be nothing left to talk about if this is the topic.

C'mon they all made it to the Super Bowl! Drop this worst shit already. F*ck#ng stupid stats.
I'll take the worst Q.B. that ever won a Super Bowl any day.

hit him in his earhole

Question
How many QB's have made it to the Super Bowl in their first full season (which this essentially is)?

Marino
Didn't he make it to the SB in his rookie season in 1984?

by weegipup on Jan 27, 2007 10:42 PM CST up reply actions

Let's not get technical...
But Marino was in his second year as a pro when the went to the super bowl.  However, he only played 11 games his rookie year of which he only started 9.  So......

Tom Brady...
Only got in 1 game his rookie year and took over in game 2 for the Pats in his second.

Brady & Marino
not bad company. Just sayin....

I see what your saying..
That Grossman will end his career with Marino like numbers and have three (or more) Super Bowl rings.

I'll take that.

Marino was an amazing QB and all
but did he ever have a legit running back? No wonder  he put up all those numbers and they could never win or get to the big game.

Good news now that we made the Super Bowl is we're guaranteed to relive most of this Rex stuff once again next year....

I consider this a misnomer...
Everybody talks about Marino never having a solid running game.  Well, I would say that they game plan never involved giving the ball to a running back that often.  And I don't think that QB centered teams that think pass first, cannot win the Super Bowl.  I really think that you need to run the ball effectively to win the big game.  And the Dolphins couldn't do that.  The Broncos didn't win until they changed their offense.  TD first, Elway second.

Whoops!
"And I don't think that QB centered teams that think pass first, cannot win the Super Bowl.  "

er...

Should read:

And I don't think that QB centered teams that think pass first, can win the Super Bowl.

I heard on the Radio that Rex has obtained...
The highist rating of any of the QB's during the playoffs. Hub Arkush is who broght up this stat while he was being questioned about Rex being the worst Superbowl QB.

Good, I'm glad we're biting back ...
any of our guys like Arkush who are asked that horse-shit question about Rex being the 'worst SB QB EVAH' should meet it with both derision and statistics.
