Regular Season Grades

Yahoo! Sports has graded out all the teams based on their season.  The Bears came out with an A-.

CHICAGO BEARS (13-3): This team sure has drawn plenty of doubters despite racking up 13 wins and going 3-1 against playoff teams. The defense isn't quite as good without tackle Tommie Harris and quarterback Rex Grossman has proven inconsistent, but this team is still as good as any in the NFC and most in the AFC. Considering the ups and downs on both sides of the ball, Lovie Smith has done a masterful coaching job.

We share the A- with the Patriots and are both below the Chargers and Baltimore.  Obviously, the issues with QB are what kept us from hitting the top mark.

Not Just Rex...
I disagree with you that it was because of the question marks around Rex that the Bears did not receive an A.

My bigger concern is with the Bears defense without Mike Brown and Tommie Harris, and this was mentioned in the reason why the grade was given.

So having a QB
which is the more important person on any team who went through a 5 game stretch with something like 18 turnovers isn't the biggest reason? Most I have seen take into account that we will get some players back on defense.

Agree with WCG...
If there was a more consistent Rex throughout the season, everyone would be saying that the last few games were meaningless and the Bears D has been resting people. Further, they'd say, although they lost their best DB, they played well without him, and their best D-lineman, they have perhaps the best and deepest in the league and aren't serious questions.

Taking the whole season into perspective, I would guess a more consistent Rex thoughout the year would have this team graded at an A+, despite the D in the last three games.

A better and healthy D against the Packers, Bucs and Lions, may have made zero to little difference from an A- to an A, being as the overall season is considered.

Going forward, though, I think you have a somewhat valid point: both are big "?'s", although it still hinges on Grossman as to how far this team goes.

That's just my opinion, though. I could be wrong.

My point...
...is not that the defense is worse than Rex.  My point is that both are major question marks right now.  We don't know what we are going to get from either of them.

And if you say that the defense is just going to step up in the playoffs, why do you think it is going to be any different than last year?  The defense sure didn't step up...

And WCG said that Rex was the reason that the Bears received an A-, when the writeup made it clear that it was both Rex and the questionable defense.

So I can assume...
that you didn't read what I wrote?

I read what you wrote...
...I was just making sure that my point was clear.
