Post Season Awards: Defensive POY

Although, not official yet it has been let out that Jason Taylor will indeed win the award.  He is followed in voting by Champ Bailey and Shawn Merriman.  Yes, the cheater and caught steroid user is third.  Nowhere on that list did I see Urlacher's  name.

I find it ironic that in a time when it seems that sport's writers are going to keep Mark Mcqwire out of the Hall of Fame, with no proof he took anything they continue to praise a guy who got caught and was suspended for it.

The thing of it is, I don't mind that Taylor won, but Urlacher is one of the best defensive players in the game and should always be on the list and most certainly higher than a guy who we know is on something.

I can't say that  I have know much about Bailey's year, but I think the voting is relatively accurate.  It does seem that steroids are viewed differently in the game of football than baseball.  It actually appears that it is accepted to a degree, I don't know how much that had to do with the monster year that Merriman had, despite being out 4 or so games.  The good thing is, he didn't win.

You are...
So right.  It's a total double standard.  Cheating in baseball, one way or another, has gone on for a century, whether it was pine tar on the ball, or stealing signs, or popping greenies, or rubbing the cream all over yourself.

I am glad Merriman didn't win, and though I thought Bailey should be the guy I am ok with Taylor.

fwiw...
urlacher himself said a couple of weeks ago that if he himself could vote he would vote for taylor. unless there is some sort of performance bonus money involved, who cares about the also-rans?
