Halftime ...
I know he's having a helluva half, and I'm happy to see that.  Stats at half are awesome (17/26, 218, 1TD), but would it kill Rex to step UP in the goddamn pocket for once?  JUST ONCE????

We should be up by 2 TD's at this point, IMHO.

yes, but
i don't know if he has much time to do that...basically, he drops back, looks, and then gets taken down by one of the DEs (the giants DEs are pretty damn good, too). i'm sure they're drilling him at halftime to step forward always, even while surveying the field, because you won't have time to do so otherwise given the giants dominating our tackles. i think that's the only way he can avoid some of those sacks...because its not like the old rex who would go back, look, wait, wait, then run backwards. today it's go back, look, sack.

Wow.
So this is what it's like to watch a guy play like Bad-Rex when you're not a Bears fan.

Not surprised ...
can't say I'm surprised after the way the defense rolled over and the offense looked gift horses in the mouth all game long.  Season over.  What a goddamn underachieving team.

what did anyone really expect?
we only beat the bad broncos because hester went ape shit. been a bad team all year, pretty much no improvement.

by mike b on Dec 2, 2007 6:38 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

No, you're missing my frame of reference ...
if someone told us back in Sept. that we'd essentially be out of the playoffs the first week of December after going to the SB last year,I think we'd say "What the fuck?"  And that's what I'm saying now - of course I saw this coming, that's why I'm not surprised, but still, it stings when you think of all the talent this team still has.

I mean, we lost to the f'ing Lions TWICE???? WHAT ... THE ... FUCK?  Nice season.

maybe
when i looked at this season i saw a harder schedule and less of a hester/defense effect, only because they were such a huge part last year they couldn't possibly match that again. with that opinion i said the offense had to improve dramatically from last year for us to be competitive. seeing them come out early this year and do nothing, and then see them excuse it: san diego is good, kc d is good and we are getting warmed up, dallas may be th best team in the league, etc was enough to know this team was going nowhere. good teams beat other good-great teams. this isn't even a good team. holes pretty much everywhere and in every key position, and possibly more to come this offseason.

good times.

the inability to convert 3rd and short
killed us. the o-line got manhandled in those situations. rex should have stepped up in the pocket more, but they would still have sacked him in many instances. gave petersen absolutely nothing on 3rd and 1 late...though everyone in the stadium knew that play was coming. well, that was an interesting season...it was lost in the trenches. hopefully that's the focus of the offseason.

by guy incognito on Dec 2, 2007 6:41 PM CST   0 recs

Ron Turner
Can we just fire him now?  The 2nd half had some of the worst play-calling I've seen all year.

by cltcprd on Dec 2, 2007 6:41 PM CST   0 recs

WTF???
Ron Turner Sucks!  Play calling was terrible.  Why do we not stay with what works.  Hurry up offense in first quarter worked.  It kept that defense winded.  Why did we give up on that?  Ron Turner needs to pack his bags and find a McDonalds to work at...preferably in Canada.

For those who would dare rip Ron Turner ...
please know, that Ron Turner is:

BRILLIANT!!!!!!!

exactly
their DEs were going to kill our terrible O-line all game long. the only way to neutralize that was the no-huddle. it worked great...so turner stops calling it. our o-line gets manhandled (again). rex has no time to throw. petersen has nowhere to run. a decent O-coordinator would almost certainly have gotten us this win, plus 2-3 more this year. if turner isn't fired, this organization is clueless.

ugh
that game left a sick feeling in my stomach watching us lose to a team that we definately could have beat. how big is that hester drop from the first half now.

by lopey986 on Dec 2, 2007 6:44 PM CST   0 recs

hester drop
and every grossman overthrow to an open receiver.

big time qbs make big time throws. more than just once in a while.

by mike b on Dec 2, 2007 6:50 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

yea
id like to see any other qb make those throws in 30 mph winds. u gotta be kidding me maybe berrian n rashied davis step up and make some catches in cruchtime.

by Jbasic89 on Dec 2, 2007 6:53 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

no shit
anyone got an official total of our drops again this game and for the season?

by lopey986 on Dec 2, 2007 6:54 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

not official
but the announcers said the Bears led the league in drops.

by big_lowitzki on Dec 2, 2007 6:57 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

go ahead
and catch a ball 15 yards downfield from you.

if you can't make those throws, stop throwing them.

by mike b on Dec 2, 2007 6:54 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

step up and make a play?
you watch the game at all? might want to see what berrian caught. hey, take a look at least week too for fun.

by mike b on Dec 2, 2007 6:56 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

agreed...
Grossman played well, and made some great throws.  He wasn't perfect, but he was also hurt by some drops.  There were a few in that last drive that were not easy catches, but were balls that should be caught. Berrian would have had to make a nice catch on that high throw, but it did go right through his hands.  And Davis needs to catch that ball when he got hit.

Grossman absolutely was not the problem today.

Bigger problems than Grossman:
O-line.
Bear's run defense.
Penalties.
Drops.
Ineffective running game.

by big_lowitzki on Dec 2, 2007 6:56 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Overthrows...
Big time QBs usually have time to throw too.  Likely, one or two of those overthrows would have been completed had he had enough time to step up.  Honestly, the only thing that I can truly blame on Rex is his unwillingness to step up in the pocket.  Hopefully, he'll improve on that like he seems to have improved on his decision making (which still isn't great...but it is better) and his ability to hold on to the football (which he seems to understand that two hands are better than one now) since the benching.

The rest of the year will be evaluation probably.  The Bears need some new outside offensive linemen and possibly a replacement for Moose that doesn't drop the ball constantly.

by dejackso on Dec 2, 2007 6:54 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

id say
if u asked me what kind of qb could get 296 yards and get sacked 6 times, my answer would be a big time qb
