Rex
People at the ESPN message board are annoying. Apparently, the last game is entirely on Rex. They think that because his QB rating is 67.1 in 7 games, that he hasn't improved after the benching.

However, if you're going to talk about Rex, at least give the correct stats. He has a 67.1 rating in total, but since you are talking about after his benching...here are his post-bench stats
73 for 130 (56.2%) 897 yards 3TD 1INT
That's a QB rating of 82.1. The post benching performance includes playing against the 2nd and 3rd best teams that Rex Played against.
Statistically, he is showing improvement which isn't suprising for a player with less than two full seasons of actual playing time. We definitely should stick with him until the end of the season and see if it sticks.
However, he needs to improve more if we are going to keep him. Although the O-line is horrible and is the leading cause of QB pressure and misthrows, Rex doesn't help. He's more David Carr than he is Tony Romo in that regard. He needs to step up into pressure...about 40% of those sacks are on Rexy and they are drive killers. If he can't do that, then he's a career backup...however, he has shown improvement so far...he could learn this.
Next season, it is cruicial that we fire Turner and upgrade the line (maybe replace Moose)
OT: someone mentioned that he was 5 for 14 in the 4th quarter and that means he sucks. I'd like to mention that several of those passes were desperation passes to try to win the game. He wasn't horrible in the 4th...he was mediocre.

4th quarter
But why do we have two diaries that essentially say the same thing?

That's probably true...
Either way, that's not the biggest problem we have.

there were
last year when he was making some of the worst decision in quartback history were we all bitching about protection or his decision making? the line wasn't this bad, and even if it gets better you still have to be able to do something with some pressure, even brady and manning get some heat.
get him a good line and still think you get some shitty decision making and inaccurte throws.

Patience my freinds
He reminds me of a puppy. He knows when he does wrong and has the same look at a puppy who just snatched food off the counter. Like training a puppy it takes a few shouts of "bad dog", but eventually they learn. Rex is just a little slower from all the partying he did in high school and college. They call him Rextasy for a reason down in Florida.
Stick with Lovie, stick with Rex. The way to a consistent winner is not over reacting and jumping ship. Stability is key to a Superbowl run of over 1 fluke season here and there.
Patience can reqwarded.

FWIW
Last year (over a full season)
QB's were sacked 25 times and averaged 3.8 YPA.
We have to fix the O-line above all else this offseason. Plus I don't see a obvious better option at QB in the free agent market unless McNabb is cut.

O-Line
Maybe Benson could run with that line, maybe not. I think he could handle some screen passes like AP does, but certainly not as well. I'd like to see Wolfe used in some spread packages that could take advantage of his speed & elusiveness. God knows Benson and AP won't outrun anybody.

what would ...
a mobile qb he is not. stepping up into the pocket when your 5'-10" to avoid a sack will get you hurt in the end by a "foaming at the mouth" mlb. not to mention he can't see as well the closer he is to the line o scrimmage.Instead of constantly pointing out what he does wrong why can't we get him to thrive with what he does well?
the bears will never, have never, had a great qb so forget about having the likes of a Manning or Brady. it won't happen in chitown.this team has always been about a tough defense and strong running game. that needs the most attention on this football team. games are won and lost in the trenches.
Does anyone miss Chris Harris as much as i do? the tj trade hurt somewhat but i feel losing harris for archuletta cut us deeper than we realize.

well
if you're not mobile, and you are too short to step up, WHY IS HE STILL IN THE LEAGUE? what can he do? everything out of the shotgun sounds like the only option, except he's still short and has to see over lineman's hands.
what does he consistently do well that we should be talking about?

ya what do u have in mind?
or maybe derek anderson-- who would cost a 1st and 3rd round pick plus a max contract.
yea no thanks ill take rex over a declining overrated qb in mcnabb n derek anderson who has two of the best offensive weapons in the league in braylon edwards and kellen winslow.

you know just as i...
what do you do for a living? and were you in a superbowl with 2 seasons of playing time? did your talents suffer with lack luster surroundings?
this kid has been dogged from day one. but has been in playoff games and played well in them. you can't have your cake and eat it to. so, pick your poison. what other options are out there for next year? Greise? glorified backup, nothing more. Mcnabb? too much money and still not great. Anderson? bears won't take a shot at him. you want to draft? Jackson and Quinn are doin' well this season. what are your options? how about further devolopment with a better offensive mind than turner's?

so we should keep him
and he can have some 300 yard games with no picks along with his 98 yard games and 3 picks.
if you are going to try and sell this guy do a little better job than that.
and no my career did not somehow get me to the superbowl since we don't really have one, that's only in the National Football League. let me ask a question just as relevant as that one, do you think oranges are more compassionant than apples?
i think we are stuck with him either way, not a lot of better options out there, but to listen to some of you everyone who makes the NFL succeeds given enough time. well, some guys are busts no matter how much time you give them. maybe you give him a line and a running game and he succeds (like 98% of qb's would) or maybe he starts making the same bad decisions as he did last year, starts throwing off his back foot (like he does already) or doesn't step up in the pocket (like he has issues with now).
blame turner all you want, i don't thik he's calling any play that calls to allow pressure from the edges or up the middle.

I think your complaints are valid...
"well, some guys are busts no matter how much time you give them"
True, but we've seen improvement from him the past couple of weeks. His QB rating post-benching is in the 80s and he has played some good teams. He's also handled pressure much better than before (with dumpoffs and holding onto the ball with two hands). These are positive steps forward. The question shouldn't be whether he is improving or not (That's really not debatable), but whether this improvement is something he will keep. I think it is, but we will only see by letting him finish the year out.
"because everything else sucks around him and its not his fault. eventhough as you said he can't step up or scramble, and will only be good not great. what offensive mind will make him taller or elusive?"
- His protection will hopefully be better next season.
- He's not immobile in the pocket...he just makes bad decisions where to move. I hope that will change in time by learning to either step up or get rid of the ball quicker (he appears to be learning the latter).
- I don't agree with the other guy that said he's too short to step up. He can find his target while stepping back and then step up to make the throw. He just needs to learn to do this.
- I don't blame Turner for the blocking protections...I blame him for not calling better plays that put us in a position to score. The poor blocking is due to having an aging line.

if
let me rephase the superbowl ?. in your livelyhood, do you just go through the motions, or do you strive to be the best "insert job title here" that you can be in hopes of becoming better at what ever it is you do? or in other words do you have heart? cuz grossman has shown that he does, but will make mistakes.
i would rather point my attention towards a defense that over the last three years, carried this offense. overnight, they became ranked what 25th in the league? from in the top 7 the last 2 to 3 years? now granted all phases are horrible, but on a team that prides themselves in defense, to me that is more of a priority than bashing a decent qb who will never be the focal point of the team. did you forget the "defense wins championships" mentality?
and, where turner comes in to this has nothing to do with the way the players are playing on the field. imo he is too predictable. when something new in brought into the offense, instead of making the other team stop it, we stop it ourselves. if i can sit in the stands and predict 65% of the plays that are called what do you think a pro does? it isn't the old bears squad he coached, and let me tell you there is a reason he isn't at Illinois anymore. and what about not only rex but olsen and hester? do you think turner is using them to the best of his ability?
stop blaming grossman cuz getting rid of him will not fix this team. he is nothing more than an easy out. we have far greater issues.
