Lance Briggs wants outta Dodge

well, I for one didn't see this whopper of a headline coming to us anytime soon:

The Chicago Bears team? The coaches, players, city and fans? Yeah, I could stay there forever. I love it. But the Chicago Bears organization? I don't want to be there anymore. I won't play for them and I'll do everything in my power to keep from playing there.
here's the link

obviously, this isn't good. briggs is asking for the biggest contract that any weak-side lb has ever received, and now after we franchised him, he suddenly wants it to be rescinded or traded.

This sucks.

this hurts. i didnt see this comin either. all i heard were good things comin from briggs and then he says he hates the organization, but not the team and fans. the impression i got from him was he didnt have to be the highest paid lb. didn't he say a while ago he'd take less money to stay in chi-town?

not surprising
he's a rosenhaus guy. this is how they all roll. i kind of don't blame him to some degree, but this is business. he's going to demand more money than he's worth, so i think there is no chance of a long-term deal here. the one plus is that i think rosenhaus can sell him really well to other teams, so hopefully we can get a fair trade for him. the franchise player deal would be ideal (2 #1's), but i'd be happy w/ some package that is close to that. we can draft briggs' replacement w/ one of those extra #1 picks this year.

Selfish bastard
I am tired of guys being made good cause they play next to the best freaking defensive player in the game then parlaying that into a big payday.  Warrick Holdman and Roosevelt Colvin.  Neither has played like a person worth that money.

I say if we don't get a real good deal, like a high first round pick, then let him sit on the bench and not get one dollar.  If we want to be total jerks, we can keep tagging him year in and year out.

Look, Walter Jones got tagged three times before he signed a long term deal.  I say we teach Rosenass a lesson.

I was wondering...
If he sits out and doesn't practice or anything, do the Bears have to pay him? If not, I would agree. Keep tagging him until he plays. Or until someone gives the Bears an offer they can't refuse. What's the problem with that?

nope...
if he refuses to play then he doesn't get paid.
