Bears Sign Two Irish

The Bears have signed two players from Notre Dame as undrafted free agents.

Running back Darius Walker and defensive end Chris Frome.

I don't know if the Bears are just faster or what, but I would think a championhsip QB in Leak and a quality RB would have come off faster.

Darius Walker
Wasn't too smart of him to leave a year early since he didn't even get drafted.

I thought he was a senior...
Either way, I thought he was a pretty good back and i think he is a good pickup for a practice squad guy. We'll have Benson, AP, Wolfe and then Walker on the practice squad, not bad. I'm surprised Cleveland didn't pick up Walker since he played w/ Quinn.

I have no idea why he went undrafted...
Most people think he was a sure 3/4/5 guy.

He'll battle Wolfe hard for the 3rd spot. They have a lot of things in common as far as intangibles, hands out of the backfield, blocking abilities.

The biggest difference is the type of runner each is: Walker is a downhill type and Wolfe is super fast. Neither will break many tackles. Wolfe makes tacklers miss a lot more thought (obviously).

I'm very surprised he went undrafted. But great pick-up.

Well
Unless Wolfe completely bombs, there is no way an undrafted guy like Walker will take a 3rd round picks spot. I think Walker will be relegated to practice squad and will only be activated should anyone go down (knock on wood.)

That's true, of course.
You're right. It's going to be very hard for him to take Wolfe's spot. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes the team as a special-teamer. If he's on the practice squad, any other team can sign him to their 53-man roster (they'll have to keep him there for the rest of the year or he goes back to the Bears). Obviously, teams didn't think a lot of him otherwise he would have been drafted.

Anyway, I'm just surprised he's lasted. I hate Notre Dame and was never especially impressed with Walker, but I think he's a worthy NFL-er.
