Briggs and Bears discussing contract extension
According to the NFL Network, the Bears and Lance Briggs/Drew Rosenhaus have begun working on a long term extension.
This would represent a major change from both camps as Briggs has consistently said he will never play another down for the Bears and the Bears have consistently said they will not offer Briggs a long term deal.
Now this could just be misinformation from the previous statements by Rosenhaus or this could actually have some life behind it.

Good News
Scenario 1: rosenhaus is just trying to create buzz for Briggs so he isn't forgotten
- If it's just Rosenhaus talking out his butt, it will give Briggs some value in a trade over what he has now. That's assuming the Bears don't deny this.
Scenario 2: They are working on a long-term deal
- If it's true, then this is the best possible news. To have Briggs and Urlacher playing together with Williams and Okwo taking over Hillenmyer's spot, that's a really athletic and powerful linebacking core.
However, this can't take away from our ability to resign Tillman and Harris. We're putting alot of money into the defense. With Grossman's contract being up and if he hits my expectations for him this season, he's going to require nice new contract. At this point, all we can do is hope for a few hometown discounts, which we're certainly not getting from Briggs.
In the end, I really expect this to be more of a smokescreen from Rosenhaus that the Bears are allowing to continue. We need to get some value from him before he leaves. To allow someone of his calibur to simply vanish via free agency would be devastating, despite the performance of his backups (which are his backups for a reason).
