Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Sure picks?

There is only one current Chicago Bear on this list:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=halloffame/nfl41-50

How is Olin Kreutz not on that list?  Furthermore, how is it that our players get zero hype.  Olsen could very easily have been considered if they're going to put the likes of Adrian Peterson and Charles Johnson on the list.  It's almost as if the writers from the coasts deliberately piss off the city of Chicago.  It's probably because they hate Jay Mariotti, but whatever.

This is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

Furthermore, they mention how Troy Aikman was a first ballot hall of famer.  What about these numbers say the guy should have been a first ballot inductee?  He won three Super Bowls, but he had, literally, the best OL in the league for many years.  I hate the fact that you are a lock on the hall if you happen to have played when your team was stacked.  It's asinine.

I will say this, I would really be excited if Rex Grossman could turn into the good Aikman years.  There are those who argue that "he can't be Peyton Manning".  Well, I think he CAN be Troy Aikman, at the very least.

I think we have the surrounding talent to win at least 3 or 4 Super Bowls in the next 8 years.  Yes, we, too, will have a stacked team and therefore will have many inductees into the HOF in 15 years or so.  That is how prophetic I feel today (or delusional...)

i agree..
espn keeps comin up with stupid things like this.  they got some pretty questionable picks like adrian peterson and reggie bush. how can you say they are gonna be in the hof after one season or not even playin a single down yet. ESPN is turning into the mtv of sports.

We had something similar a number of weeks back.
I think we talked about kruetz not being there either.

single season sensations
If they're going to put first-year wonders Vince Young, AJ Hawk, Matt Leinart, and Reggie Bush on the list, then where's Devin? He was a game changer who made teams kick out-of-bounds than risk having a return for a touchdown. He didn't even make their 'bubble' list.

Seriously?
I couldn't possibly see Devin Hester making the Hall of Fame.

At least he'll be a starter.
I don't think he will either. But at least he's got a shot.

the list is pointless.
its impossible to project how a guys career will go based on one season.

pure crap. obviously some one was short on ideas.

all the way to Arizona

'Short on ideas'
That pretty much sums up ESPN lately.  "Who's Now?" crap only the latest in their unending quest to become no different than 'E!' Entertainment television.

Three words...
Steven A. Smith.  Drama queen douche.  I knew he was a douche when he gave us the latest on the Kobe/Shaq every few days and I know he's a douche even as an anchor.  He's almost as bad as Jeremy Schaap.

man
i wish the season would start, so i could just watch football instead of read all the story lines by writers that don't do their homework

I was with
you until you said Aikman isn't first-ballot worthy, and that Grossman can be as good as Aikman, one of the most accurate passers ever. He also showed up and played well at those 3 super bowls (he was the MVP of a least one), which is more than Rex could say.

Re: i'm just sayin'...
I looked at his stats and never realized he was that mediocre.  He was MVP of one super bowl because he had Michael Irvin, Alvin Harper, Jay Novacek, and Emmitt Smith and the line I mentioned.  All I'm saying is I think Rex has a shot, especially since we're freakin' stacked.  He was just a consistent player that reaped the benefits of the luck of the draw (and sucking so bad the first few years).  Here are more Aikman stats:

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/AikmTr00.htm

The first super bowl he was awesome, but I think you would agree the second and third were not great performances by a QB, they were just efficient.

In any event, everyone always says "well, Grossman can't be Manning".  Well, I really believe he can be Aikman.  And I think he'll show that this year.  I really do.

Plus, I put the disclaimer that I was probably being delusional anyhow, so you're probably right...

Most accurate?
Brad Johnson was more accurate.  Should he be a first ballot hall of fame guy?

I don't get why everyone's angry.
Personally, I think they left off too many young offensive/defensive lineman. I know there aren't a lot who make it, but this is just their guess that 50 players who play in this season will make the Hall of Fame.

With the older guys like Favre, Larry Allen, Ray Lewis, it's obvious. Middle guys like Brady, Manning and Urlacher are just an injury-free remaining career from being 1st-ballot.

Kreutz is an obvious omission. But still, Bears fans are so sensitive. Do we need to go to group session today?

It's probably a result of...
the bittersweet ending to our season.  Some people have gotten over it.  Others, like myself haven't.  Still, their rating system of putting 18s and 20s in people's scores to make it seem "legit" are just silly.  If they are going to pick 50 people, just pick 50 people, don't have bogus ratings that amount to nothing.  It's like making a Pugh matrix to pick a design in engineering.  You can change the importance of any of the factors on a whim to fit your preconceived notion of the best design.  It's just mumbo-jumbo to sell your bullshit idea.

As Sam Kinison would say "They see through me!  Oh! Oh! Oh!"

On that last part...
...I completely agree. I was thinking the same thing. How does Richard Seymour get a higher team ranking than Tom Brady? The only year they both weren't on the team was Brady's rookie year! Oh, they did soooo much worse that year and he's certainly to blame.

But you're right. They give them these point things to make it look more "statty". It's stupid, because it's not stats at all.
