Who's number 2?

According to John Mullin in this article Orton maybe playing his way into the number 2 Quarterback on this team.

He has lost weight and came into camp in the best shape of his life. With Orton looking good this camp and outplaying Griese what do you think the chances of Griese getting dumped and the Bears keeping Leak as the third string Quarterback?

What's the cap hit?
Unless Rex blows it, and they don't think there's a valuable FA out there, he'll be dumped within the next year, I'm sure. So, if cutting him this year means they don't take a hit on the cap space for 2008, I could see it. However, if they're past the "point of no return", meaning, cutting him now does still add to the 2008 cap penalty, I can't see a good reason in cutting him.

Yeah...
too bad they invested so much money in Griese because i'd be pretty happy with Grossman, Orton, Leak.
