Tank and the 'boys

According to ESPN, Tank has signed a two year deal with the Cowboys.  Hell, they took TO, i guess there isn't anyone they won't take.

"The former Chicago Bear visited team officials Monday night and hoped to have a deal in place by Tuesday afternoon. Although it is unclear what he can do between now and when he is reinstated by the league, the former Chicago Bear at least has a future employer."

interesting
we'll see what he does as a nose tackle.

When you're a bottom 10 defense in 3/4 categories, off the field issues don't look so bad. (yes I know its week 2)

even better
i don't think i heard a single commentator who thought wade phillips was anything more then an interim solution at head coach.  i hope the guy gets a serious shake, but if TO really ran off the tuna, who cares if Tank gives phillips headaches.

i hope tank puts his life in order, but i would hate to see him become a star in texas.

Hi all
Cowboy's fan here. I was wondering what you guys, the real experts, think of Tank Johnson.

Dallas was kind of forced into getting a guy who could play NT because of Ferguson's injury and shallow depth at the position. It was pretty much an insurance move on Jerry Jones part.

So what say you?

when on the field
he played very well.  Without the off field issues, he would still be a Bear.  I'm not trying to belabor the obvious here but I am saying that he's good enough to start on the best defense in the league.  Fortunately for you, the gun laws are more lax in Texas.

They already told Tank
that he can carry as many weapons as will fit in his pickup truck gun rack.

huh?
wasn't the suspension supposed to begin AFTER he signed with another team?

Yes
It still does - he now has to serve his suspension.

tanker
"He has served the first two games of that suspension and will still have to apply for reinstatement."

From above link, what gives?

I was wondering that, too.
We all assumed since he wasn't on a team, he wasn't serving it. But maybe he still is. I don't know, though: as far as we know, it says "8 games", not 8 weeks.

The lawyer in me...
...thinks that he hasn't played in two games this year.  I doubt the suspension says anything specifically about being employed, but rather just about not playing.

He hasn't played.

That's my devil's advocate and I'm sticking to it!

That would be horseshit...
Mega horseshit. He wasn't in the league because he is a fuckup, so if he isn't employed then how is he serving his suspension? That would be like my work suspending me for 3 days right when i'm about to have vacation days on wednesday, thursday, friday and then i come back monday and say that counts as my suspension.

Your vacation suspension...
...would be fine, if you didn't get that as paid vacation, just like Tank hasn't gotten paid the last two weeks

I know
that it's a two year contract, but this move was made this week because the 'Boys play the Bears.  Signing Tank will allow them some insight into our defense.  Of course, Babich has overhauled the defense dramatically and our front line (with the exception of Harris) has been revamped as well w/ a new DT, Mark Anderson becoming a starter and Wale deciding to show up ready to play this year.
I wish the best of Tank but it does disappoint me a little to see him get swept up so quickly.  Part of me believes that the only hope he has of turning his life around is by staying away from the NFL for a year or so.

That's an excellent point...
I bet they're grilling him right now for any insight they can get. And I'm sure Tank is willing to give them anything they want in that regard.
We are the Bears, the Shuffling Crew...

And what is he supposed to say?
The Bears have been running the same defense for over 4 years now, what exactly is Tank supposed to tell them? I don't believe this signing has anywhere near as much to do with "espionage" as it does with the fact that Tank can probably play all 3 line positions in a 3-4 defense. He's not an ideal fit mind you, but he's the best out there and while he can't work out with the team this gives him time to at least work with the playbook.

Also what is the non-sense about Tank being a good player or "good enough to start on the best defense in the league"? The myth of Tank Johnson as a good player is proof that any publicity is good publicity. The only reasons Tank was a starter last year was because Alfonso Boone was the alternative. If he were on this team now he would've been the #4 tackle prior to Dvoracek injury.

They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. *That's* the *Chicago* way!

agreed
Tank Johnson is just a good player and nothing more. The Cowboys signed him only as a backup.

He won't beat out Ratliff even when his suspension is over.
