Some musings...
Berrian was awful last night. He put up decent numbers, but he had at least three ridiculous drops - all three which would have been first downs, and one may have been a touchdown, but at minimum would have put the Bears inside the 5 yard-line. If Berrian catches the ball that his chest, that game may look very different.
The Bears did somewhat abandon the run in the second half, which surely didn't help Rex. And the offensive line played worse in the second half, not giving Rex protection.
For the most part I am not worried about the Bear's defense, assuming that none of the injuries are serious. Not sure that is a safe assumption, but oh well. I AM worried about how many missed tackles the Bears had last night. It started to be a pattern last season, and it didn't look good yesterday.
By the way... for being one of the best defensive players in football, Urlacher sure misses a lot of tackles.
I did think that the play-calling was somewhat better last night. Rex threw the ball down field a bit more than he did in the previous two games.
Rex. He looked pretty solid in the first half - making some good throws and not making any bad decisions. He did have the one pick, but it was just a poor throw/bad timing, which I can live with in comparison to bad mechanics or bad decisions. Of course... he fell apart in the 2nd half. I really don't know what to say about Rex. I have been one of his biggest fans/supporters for the last year, but it is getting tough. With that said, anyone else get really tired of Madden's Rex bashing and Romo-loving? Rex would get sacked on a play that even Romo or Vince Young wouldn't have been able to avoid, and Madden blames it on Rex.
Offense? What offense? I really do not understand how the Bear's offense is this bad. There are some obvious things - an older offensive line is one of they key things. But this offense is essentially the same as last year, with added weapons. And it continues to struggle. And it is not all Rex's fault.
Bradley? Anyone know what happened to Mark Bradley's role in the Bear's offense?
The deep ball? I still have yet to see a Berrian/Bradley streak. It is possible that the plays are being called, but they just are not open. But that is one thing the Bear's are really missing.
Tony Romo impressed me. Terrell Owens impressed me. The rest of the team didn't really impress me. But Romo's ability to move within the pocket is quite impressive, and he probably was the singular reason that the Cowboys were in a position to win that game. The Bears d-line had pressure on him all night, and he was able to make plays. So where does this team go from here? They have a really tough game coming up in Detroit against a high-octane offense and an awful defense. It could be the perfect game to get Rex on track. But a lot will depend on the status of all the injuries and if the offensive line remembers how to block.
I really do think that this team will be fine, though it is getting harder to support the Grossman/Turner regime.

Fire Ron Turner
When was the last time that Ron Turner constructed a play that actually confused a defense? How about that 3rd-and-goal from the 3 yard-line, when the Cowboys brought in 6 DBs - and the Bears still passed the ball? Obviously Dallas knew what play the Bears called, and the Bears still tried to pass.
When was the last time the Bears WRs ran routes that actually caused the opposing DBs to get mixed up in coverage? I see it all the time from good offensive coordinators.

well, which is it?
awful hard to tell which lane you're in here.
berian was awful, and he's the best the bears have.
benson looked like the 400th pick, not the 4th.
rex goes as the o-line goes...one half good, the other half not so much.
and the o-line is clearly a notch or two or three lower than a year ago.
hard to know how much of the defense was injury, and how much was fatigue, and how much was just poor performance. there were plenty of each.
have no idea who your "added weapons" on offense are. olsen makes a catch or two...hardly enough to cover for the disappearance of muhsin and the complete invisibility of davis and bradley.
hester as an offensive decoy. why bother? he'll just get hurt in traffic, or pretending to throw a block.
shoulda quit while you were ahead, dave; this team will not be well, as there are far too many issues that need addressing. and not enough spare parts to fix them all.
sure is a rapid fall from (nearly) the top of the mountain. 2006 was an awful long time ago.

added weapons
I would argue that Bradley, Olsen, and Hester are added weapons, but they haven't really been used.
Olsen because of injury.
Hester - can't handle it?
Bradley - ??
The disappearance of Davis and Moose has been odd as well.
and a defense that cannot tackle...but the team will be okay.
I didn't say they couldn't tackle. I said they missed a lot of tackles, which I feel has been a problem for a while. They often make up for it with great team speed and ability, as others come through and make the tackle after the first miss. But it is a concern.

Yea...
Though with the struggles of this offensive line, it may be nice to get someone like Wolf and his "shiftiness" in the game to try and create some offense.

Minor adjustment...
Bradley has become the 5th WR, which is no man's land. Davis was 3rd last year, so he's still 3rd, and Devin automatically becomes 4th? I need an explanation from someone. Bradley will be regretfully missed if he leaves after being under-utilized.
Bradley needs to be the 3rd WR and Hester the 4th, and Davis gone. It won't make a difference this year, but it could down the road. Bradley has a potential to be a good complement with Berrian next year (moose being cut/traded). Hester does not.

Davis
I have been quite disappointed with the use of Hester - as others have already said, using him as a decoy will only last for so long (but it did work pretty well on the Benson sweep, even it was only for 5-6 yards). Right now he seems, for the most part, a waste of space on offense and in turn an unnecessary injury risk.

Davis sucks.
And the thing is, Hester is the same thing as Davis. Exactly? No. But speedy guys who started as return men and cornerbacks? The parallels are curious. If you like Davis, I would venture a guess you would like Hester twice as much in the same role. But maybe he's too raw.
Anyway, I'd also take Moose out. Toughness and leadership are great, but it's not doing a lot to help the team now, so let's go with the better player (I do understand that they block, too, and maybe Bradley is just horrible at it. Or maybe he hates practice. I don't know.) My WR corps goes Berrian, Bradley, Hester, Moose, Davis. It would assure us that we're not stunting the growth of a potentially good player for someone who is clearly on the decline. It won't happen this year, but it better happen next year.
These are opinions and couldn't certainly be wrong (as I with possibilities with Bradley above), but I'm ten times higher on Bradley and Hester at this point than I am with Muhammed and Davis.

lovie's press conference
those in attendance were told that question would be obvious Wednesday at practice.
I haven't been very excited at the prospect of Griese but he really couldn't be worse. I don't think Griese backpedals thirty feet or throws into triple coverage. I'll take throwing the ball away instead. Grossman's big strengths, the deep ball and his alleged accuracy have not shown up this year anyway.
All the work the wide receivers have done in camp with Grossman is also apparently worthless, since they are ending routes early or are not in the right place.
Hopefully an effective but not impressive passing game can open up the run since our horrible line can't really do it on it's own.
We'll see, hopefully the Griese era begins tomorrow.

Anyone else think it's an insult
I guess if you can't score more than 10 it's hard to be a bigger favorite.

We could have had Brady Quinn........
Cannot believe he is still working here!
Ditka just said our defense has been on the field longer than any other team in the league. That's why they're all hurt.
Do we really have any hope at QB? I mean really?
Doesn't matter because age, luck, schedule, injuries won't give us another chance for years to come.
It's over and we wasted it all on the Wrecksperiment! Dumb as hell!!
