Going to the Game....

....which I have begun calling the No Respect Bowl.

I live in LA and drove down yesterday. You would THINK from all of the write-ups I've read in SoCal that the Bears won 5 games all of last year by beating up on the Lions. No one has given them a shred of a chance.

Well....let's just say I think the QB in question today isn't the one who's going to be chased by Shawn Merriman. Brian Uralcher, meet Phillip Rivers; Phillips Rivers....meet Brian Urlacher.

Star-divide

The Mitchell & Ness Payton jersey is on, the endzone tickets (7 rows up from the field in the endzone that's closest to the action) are warmed up.

Time to show the Chargers that it isn't easy being a successful playoff team.

Also, I've posted these before but here are a few Payton videos to get the juices flowing for 2007.

The Reason
The offensive line couldn't hold a flippin block. Our running game is unimaginative, which doens't help. But if our line is getting shoved two ards back every play, there's no room to run the ball. The defense showed they're back and as good as ever. Grossman showed he can play well enough against a good defense to win a game although he still needs to play better. This was a difficult game to watch but there are a number of positives.

...as I type this, Turner rocks one of our defenders.

I just happened to be returning to town
I needed to be in Chicago this past week -- my return flight, at 12:20 had many Bears fans aboard. I cannot believe any of them expected to be in their seats at Qualcomm by kickoff.  With the usual massive congestion on the Mission Valley access routes -- and riders flooding the San Diego Trolley -- guys, if any of you actually see this -- and were here -- hopefully, if there is a next time for a Bears visit to town -- you'll get here earlier.

If you actually got to your seat by the Second Quarter, from Lindbergh Field -- you were fortunate.

I'm out $65/point
Got a discount club ticket from a Bears fan, but even that wasn't enough.  It sure was a pretty day, though.

Still:

  • Isn't this Rex's 5th year in the league? Isn't it about time we trusted him to complete a 5 yard slant on 3rd and 2? What in the hell was the deal with those three dive calls in the 4th quarter? The Bears needed 2 scores, not two yards!
  • Speaking of Rex, he looked ok today.  I didn't think the INT was his fault, and when I got home and saw my Tivo, I was really ticked at Berrian.  But they gotta trust him more.  He was looking ok, then they went to those lame handoffs over and over.
  • 4 turnovers.  Nuff said.
  • Any Bears fans in the SD area? I'm thinking about making the trip to Oakland on Nov. 11. Methinks we need a caravan or some damn thing to make a real road trip out of it.  (Well, a Southwest trip, anyway.)

Just got Back...
...and it was a frustrating game to be sure. But I have no doubts: the Bears lost this game, San Diego's vaunted offense did not win it for them.

We have the blueprint for LaDanian, there is no doubt about that.

Charger fans talk the worst smack: their main chant where I sat was "you can't run you can't run" which is rather...unimaginative, but at least is better then the "This is a Chargers World and You're Just Living In It" t-shirt on the two ladies in front of me.

However, once LT was stopped time after time, some Chargers fans became genuinely angry when the "You can't run" chant was used on them.

For me, the best part was after being bombarded on Grossman comments (again, more of "he sucks!") it became rather fun to watch reactions to Rivers' poor play as "pulling a Grossman." They really didn't know what to make of that.....so that much was fun.

Hey - 2 awesome D's were dialed in on Week 1 and the Offenses were not. THe Bears played the sloppier game and lost on the road. Pretty simple.

Benson better learn a little finesse and stop running into his blockers.
