Norm Chow Available

The Titans have let go Norm Chow.

I know... the Bears keep saying that Turner will be back next year.  Because he did such a wonderful job.  Or something like that.

But there are now two very good offensive coordinators available (Chow and Cameron).  Two coordinators who would be MUCH better than Turner.

Bears... go get one of them.

Norm Chow?
What has he done on a pro level to be seen as a good replacement?  That isn't rhetorical, I would like to know. I personally feel like he road the coat tails of Matt Leinart, Carson Palmer, and the success of Pete Carroll & USC into a job in the NFL.

Cameron... I definitely agree. Bring him in. But why Chow?

what he said....
speaking of Cameron, besides the Miami disaster, he was the former Chargers OC, correct?

Is there something besides that gig that makes him interesting (and that interview someone posted)? Cause I don't recall the Chargers being all that great offensively, but I do recall them having LT.

I don't know about the pro level
But Chow is the reason why Palmer won a Heisman.

Don't get me wrong
Palmer is great, but under Chow's tutelage, he fully blossomed.

more importantly
both these guys as OCs could run circles around turner.

if you watched any titans games
you'd know that their offense would have been amazing if not for the dropped passes

Somehow how I think the Titans
powers-that-be would have noticed something like that and not fired Chow.

The ESPN article on the firing says Chow helped Palmer, Phillip Rivers, McMahon and Steve Young over his career. Didn't Rivers and Palmer pretty much play the same years in college?

Um, ya, and maybe
Vince Young's whopping 71 QB rating, with 9 pass TD's and 17 INT's had something to do with it as well.

That guy, so far, is a BUST. Which, in a way, makes me wonder how much Chow could really do with QB's in the NFL.  Still he can't be any worse than TheGeniusRonTurner

Jury is still out
I'll give him a couple more years but a great qb still can look good no matter how bad his receivers are.

Not if he's not a passing QB.
He has to work on throwing. I also disagree with "not being great" equal to being a bust. Yes, you'd obviously like any QB you draft No. 3 overall to be great, but if he can start for them for another eight years while being generally regarded as a Top 10 QB, and he ends up better than Leinart and Cutler, isn't that acceptable?

'So Far'
See my qualifier in there, he could turn it around.  My larger point is that I'm not sure how one can only blame the receivers for Chow's offense without blaming Young as well.  And he had 3 Rush TD's this year compared to 7 the year before.  This on a team that almost made the playoffs.  Rex puts up similar (although slightly worse) numbers in the fewer games he plays and people howl like demons over how awful he was.  But Rex was on a worse team than Young had, by any measure.

Thank You
Rex went 23 and 20 last year TD's to int's.  Young went 9 and 17 this year.  Rex was considered the worst QB to ever get to a Super Bowl last year.  If Vince Young would have got there this year, he would be hailed a winner.  BULLSHIT!!!
GO BEARS!!!!!

Except that...
...when Young is running away from defensive lines, it's not towards his own end zone--it's towards the one that helps his team get points. He's not Michael Vick, but he still makes plays w/ his feet.

So what!
Put him behind the Bears line and see if that's the case.

Fan ignorance.
Rex did it last year, too. He does it every time there's a rush (not literally, but mostly). Someone like Young would be running toward the line. Rex is scared because of his injuries. It's obvious. I'm sorry you can't see that. And if you can't see the difference between Young and Grossman (which starts with, but doesn't end with Grossman being 3 years older), then... well, that sucks.

Cue iowaBear to say ....
anyone, anyone?

Ok, fine, I'll say it:

DON'T GET RID OF RON TURNER, RON TURNER IS BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of bringing in guys
why is everybody fighting over Jason Garrett?  He has one year of experience as an OC.  He has Romo, TO, Whitten and MB III, he better be able to get them in the playoffs.

From Baltimore's perspective didn't they just let go a guy who is supposed to be an offensive guru, odd they would go the exact same route.

by Adam T on Jan 15, 2008 10:50 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

why?
Why is that odd?  Their offensive sucks.  It would make sense to bring in an offensive guy.

As for Garrett... people like him.  People liked him last year.  Hell - he almost got the Cowboys head job last year.

uhm
thats because he is a hometown guy, he was their backup qb when they were winning superbowls, but I agree with wcg, all he has shown us is what he can do with a crazy stacked offense, brian billick had the same thing when he was with the vikings. Baltimore is effectively going after the same exact guy

billicks offensive genius
consisted of daunte throwing lobs to randy moss all day long.

I was thinking about this...
Norm Chow wouldn't be a bad guy to bring in to replace Pep Hamilton if the circumstances were right. Now I know the Bears would not be willing to pay him and I also doubt he'd wanna take a demotion like that. So I know that'll never happen, but in theory I think it could really work. Especially if the Bear's draft a QB, like Andre Woodson (like everyone is saying is gonna happen), then he would be a great coach to mold him. He has a lot of upside, but needs development. That is where Norm Chow could step in.

Yet in Reality, I think in the Bear's situation they really need a QB who can start right away, and I think he may already be on the roster. Which one steps up is the question.
