Hardy Nickerson Steps Down

After one season as the Bears linebackers coach, former Buc Hardy Nickerson has resigned from the position.

"Hardy did a good job for us," Smith told the team's Web site. "He expressed how difficult this decision was, but he felt it was best for him and his family at this time. I certainly understand his decision and wish him and his family the best."

With Nickerson's resignation, the Bears will have their fourth linebackers coach in 8 seasons.  That number seems odd considering the talent and success we have had at that position during that time frame.  Granted Babich received a promotion when he moved out of the role.

4 in 8
4 linebacker coaches in 8 years means little to me.

How does that compare to other teams?  And where did these coaches go?  I know at least one (Babich) got promoted, but I don't even know who the others were.

It would seem to me that there would always be pretty significant turnover at the level of coaching - few of those coaches want to be linebacker coaches for the rest of the career.

wasn't Samurai Mike one of them
and if you're good, you're right dave, you won't be a LB coach long.

Next LB Coach
The nnext guy will probably matter more than Nickerson.  Urlacher, Briggs & Hillenmeyer probably don't need a hell of a lot of coaching.  If Jamar becomes the starter he may need more attention
