Ok, seriously
We had 9 guys blocking (seven on the line, two from the backfield) and we can’t hold the line. We didn’t have to move the line, we just had to hold it. If we hold it, Forte can jump over and into the endzone. But when you have to jump from two yards behind the line of scrimmage, you are not nearly as likely to get the three yards into the endzone. The line has done well for pass blocking during the game, but thy can’t seem to come up with enough push to hold.
Again, no need to move the line – just hold.

when you absolutely know that’s what they’re calling…unacceptable. absolutely unacceptable. everyone on our defense better look hard in the mirror after this game. they totally blew it.

But the squib took 5 seconds off the clock, wouldn’t a regular deep kickoff have done the same thing? The odds of them getting another great return were not in their favor.

why squib kick?
kicking it deep takes plenty of time off the clock, too. more importantly, they have the ball (so long as our ST do a reasonable job) deep in their territory. besides horrible D today, the coaching was abysmal. 3rd and 1 to mckie (again), not opting for the FG, and then squib kicking at the end.

that was a joke. i know norwood took one deep, but you have to rely on your god damned special teams once in a while even when they suck. Fire Toub, Fire Babich, Fire Turner. Start over with a clean slate because that was a god damned embarrassment.

This game will haunt the Bears the rest of the season — they will be lucky to get it up for Minnesota next week. Embarrasing, so fucking embarrasing. Our defense is soft, at best.

same as usual. brown is the deep safety, his role is to not get burned deep. that soft spot is there in the zone all day as they constantly exploit that…the deep hitch and the short slant. all easy plays to beat a cover 2 scheme.
how you give a team the sideline in that situation
and how your veteran safety doesn’t pull him down in bounds somehow… unbefuckinglievable.

Typical Bears game
A winnable game where they stop the opponent’s huge running threat….yet they let the rookie QB throw for 300 yards? Great drive by Orton, but seeing all the celebration after taking the lead was just dumb. It’s the NFL, anything can happen in 11 seconds, and hopefully the Bears realize this too. The Vikings barely beat the Lions, let’s see the regroup.

Frustrating loss, but...
This was a heartbreaking loss, but let’s not forget we were without both starting corners for a good part of the game.

our scheme calls for soft coverage by the corners anyway, so all those slants are gonna work wether we have vasher/tillman or graham/hamilton.
on another note, what the hell is with mcbride. he went from spot starter last year to 5th on the depth chart behind marcus freakin hamilton who was on the practice squad up until 2 weeks ago?

Because Matt Ryan wasn’t just throwing slants all day. Those completions down the field hurt.
They shouldn't have been in that game anyway.
They were horrid in the first half. Orton and the offense did their jobs late, but the defense was on the field an awful lot. They need to get a couple of NFL-caliber corners, especially if Peanut is going to be out… again.

it shouldn’t have been a 1 field goal game. we choked the ball away on the 1 yard line with more predictable play calling from the brilliant ron turner.
that still doesn't excuse the terrible coaching
mckie on 3rd and 1, going for it on 4th and goal when you need 2 scores, and squib kicking with 11 seconds left. the D really blew this game by never making plays, but we still should have won with competent coaching.

haven’t we run the fucking mckie dive enough in the first 4 games that teams know it is coming on 3rd and short. i’m running play action to mckie with a dump off to forte on a flat or olsen on an out route.

i doubt you would have given it to mckie on 3rd and 1. that was the down to score on.

Turner and Ryan were horrible against Tampa Bay and Carlolina, teams with comparable defensive units to the Bears. Just another frustrating game that got away.

Within 5 minutes, Fox NFL coverage showed the Vikes take the game from the Lions with a last second FG, then changed to cover the Skins get theirs taken away with a last second FG, then switched to the Bears lose from a last second FG.

Obsurd to squib to the 40 yard line, even if he had run it back for good field position it would have been more time off the clock. An average to slightly above average team needs better coaching than this.

at the same time you should still put some faith in them. besides, the norwood return took what…8-10 seconds? would’ve been the same exact thing. if you stop him at the 30 then they have to go 60 yards to get into field goal position instead of 30.
as long as Green Bay loses, we are still fine in the division

at some point, you'd figure babich would dial in a blitz
ryan barely got hit all game long. after one 3rd and long conversion after another, it would’ve made some sense to send some pressure to try and rattle the rookie. but that would only be logical.

alter the zone schemes a bit. i mean, we drop into the same shit play after play. that might work on madden against the computer, but real live nfl coaches not named ron turner, bob babich and lovie smith learn to make some friggin adjustments.

they have been getting killed in the soft zone for a few years now. madden pointed that out in the game against philly…and lo and behold, everytime they played it, philly got a good play. i mean, the tampa 2 is great and all, but if you’re getting no pressure from your front 4 (and we got next to nothing today), many QBs can absolutely shred it. like we saw today.

Orton proved he can win when the game’s on the line – still a long season to go, I like our chances to win the division.

for 59 minutes and 49 seconds, we didn’t deserve to win.
