Tommie Harris Suspended, Out Vs. Lions

The Bears have apparently suspended DT Tommie Harris for one game and it will be this Sunday at Detroit.

The Bears on Thursday suspended defensive tackle Tommie Harris for Sunday’s road game against the Detroit Lions for breaking an unspecified team rule.

The three-time Pro Bowler will continue rehabbing his knee injury this week at Halas Hall, but he won’t rejoin his teammates on the practice field until next week.

“It’s always disappointing when you have to suspend one of your players, but nothing’s bigger than the team,” Smith said.

I don't see any real problem with Harris missing the game Sunday, Detroit has a porous offensive line and our backups SHOULD be able to apply adequate pressure to the statue they have playing QB.  However, I have to wonder what sort of rule was broken, Harris seems like a real team player and someone who does his best to keep his nose clean.  I hope this is just a one time incident and as usual Lovie and JA aren't releasing a lot of details.

so

in other words he is still hurt.

You have to wonder about the injury

but I don’t think the Bears a cheap enough to suspend a player just to keep from paying him when he’s legitimately injured. Either way, it’s probably for the best that Harris will rest another week.

Michael Smith on ESPN

said Tommie missed treatment on his knee and then was “nonforthcoming” w/ Lovie as to why.

Whatever that means. Just figured I’d pass on what he said.

no biggie

he has been a nonfactor in the games he has played in up to this point anyway. he needs to get 100% before we even bother putting him back on the field. i haven’t noticed much of a difference between him and our backups…none of them get any pressure.

heres so more on it

this doesnt sound good at all. looks like tommies depressed over some off the field issues.

If i read between the lines, looks like he wasnt coming to rehab stuff because of his off field issues weighing on him…hence the suspension.

Bears have no shot this weekend

McGwire belongs in the Hall so put him there

Can you explain?

Harris didn’t play in the Philadelphia game and while he is a great player when healthy maybe we are better off with a healthy Idonije and Harrison over an unhealthy Harris.

No Tillman and Vasher either

come on they can’t win without those guys as proven last year

Are you kidding?

I’d assume you are. The Bears will likely win big, this weekend.

Wow!!

So Tommie misses all of the ten plays he gets on the field for. We won’t notice his absence. Kind of like how we haven’t noticed him while he’s playing.

“Sources also indicated Harris had an argument with coach Lovie Smith stemming from Harris’ public displeasure with the Bears for releasing wide receiver Mark Bradley, his college teammate and close friend.”

I wonder if that’s why the kept Dvorcek all this time. Dude’s going into his 3rd year and it’s basically his first as a starter. Tommie has juice, or wants to when it comes to personnel.

Besides the obvious - Go Irish.

Z. He doesn't need an exclamation point. He is one.

Good God I hope not

I thought Harris was one of the good guys and you are telling me he is letting his prima donna feelings get in the way of playing ball. You are a man and we just paid you a crap load of money, saddle up and get to work.

It does sound like the Bears to be pissed off about something so stupid though

I still can’t believe how upset they were about Griese saying he called the plays in Philly last year.

they probably kept...

… Dvorcek because he is good.

by big_lowitzki on Oct 3, 2008 2:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

And they probably held onto Bradley that long...

because he was bad, but the Bears don’t seem to know the difference between good and bad when it comes to WRs.

I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

How do you figure?

He’s played one full month of pro ball in 3 seasons.

Please provide an example, I’d like to hear it.

I think

this was a good game for him to miss out of any of them because the Lions don’t have a big running threat. Also, I’m pretty confident with Harrison, Idonije and Dusty in there. Hopefully he’ll be healthy for Turner and company next week.

In retrospect

It looks like a good move cause Tommie has looked terrible so far this year. If he needed an attiitude adjustment that was the way to do it.
