Banned Substances

I don't understand why the Williams brothers were allowed to play while under testing postive from diueretics that supposed to come use of starcaps.  It is a clear violation of the league rules.  I had never heard of starcaps but these players certainly had.  They most likely used it  as a masking aid from using steroids either by word of mouth among players or even more grevious by steroids providers.  They said they were trying to lose weight but what D-lineman would want bulk down and strength up?  What does this tell our youth.  Win at any cost?  I hope not but I know it's not true.  Once testing possitive the player should sit.  Let's not let them play under question of a doubt.  Let's clean up the game.  More so than the MLB especially in a strength game such as football.

They were allowed to continue playing

because they were appealing the test.

Due process is a beautiful thing.

Nuff Said...

Also, see Matt Jones (Jax) and a couple hand-fulls of the Saints. Even when there are clear black and white lines, sometimes there are difficult gray areas. (okay, Matt was caught red-handed, but possible gray areas for the Saints players)

“Let’s not let them play under question of a doubt.” : Don’t give players a chance to defend themselves?

“They most likely used it as a masking aid from using steroids…” : Is that your professional opinion?? Because diuretics can sometimes be used medicinally for people who have kidney problems, high blood pressure, or liver problems. Sure, diuretics are probably used for reasons that they shouldn’t be more often than not, it still rubs me the wrong way when people pass blanket judgments and make comments like those.

Cleaning up pro-sports from steroids and other substances is absolutely necessary, as you stated. The process that is currently being used is a touchy subject, but at least it is something that is no longer being swept under the rug. It will take a few years to iron the kinks out of the process of testing and prosecuting, but we are headed in the right direction.

If the Williamses cheated, they should be punished. But their guilt or innocence is not for us to decide.

Interesting... Just noticed your post on the Vikings blog.

Did you really sign up just to bash the Vikings?
1.) You are entitled to your opinions, but you should be more respectful than you were on their website.
2.) While I haven’t been a member for very long myself, I have been reading what WCG members have been writing for a couple of years now. And I must say that this is a great group of fans who are loyal to their team, while respectful to fans of our competitors.

If you are going to hang around here, please lighten up a bit!

The only thing I don't agree with is how long this has taken

This news story about these banned substances happened at least a month ago.
It’s fine that they appeal, but I think it’s stupid for it to take this long to reach a verdict.

Now instead of possibly returning from their suspension for the end of the season. They might miss the stretch run to the playoffs and it could be the reason why the Vikings don’t make the playoffs.

You are right, the process does take too long...

But the Vikings not making the playoffs?? Umm… somebody has to win the North!

This one is a little different

I believe that the chemical that triggered the positive result is not listed on the products ingredients.

There is also another issue in that the Williams’ reps say the NFL new this product would cause a positive result, but did not notify any teams and/or players.

The NFL is clear that it is up to the players to know what they put in their bodies, so they can still move on it, but if any suspensions happen I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t take place until next season. The NFLPA hasn’t even really gotten involved yet. They can extend this out longer.

Did you really need

To bring your whining BS over here, too?

The fact of the matter is that absolutely nobody should have known about this entire thing until today. Some idiot reporter grossly violated the agreement that the league has with the media about matters like this, and because of that it’s been all over the news for the last month. This announcement should be coming as a complete surprise to everybody, because nobody should have known anything about it until the appeals process was finished, which was today.

As far as the football-related side of this. . .yes, losing Pat and Kevin Williams makes Minnesota’s defense worse. It doesn’t, by proxy, make Chicago’s defense any better or Green Bay’s defense any better.

True, but our run game would have been better

We may not be able to stop you, but we might have put more points on the board.

Well, yeah, maybe

But it’s not going to do anything to make them any better over the next four weeks.
