Dvoracek Goes To IR, Bears Sign Receiver

Nose tackle Dusty Dvoracek officially ended his thrid straight season on the IR.  The Bears placed him there after tearing a bicep.  I guess at least he got through 12 games.  It hurts depth, but so far Anthony Adams has played well, so it hasn't hurt our starters yet.

With the extra spot the Bears sign WR Devin Aromashodu off of the Washington Redskins practice squad.

I am assuming this is a pickup to help on special teams.  We already have receivers (Brandon Rideau and Earl Bennett) who aren't seeing the field.  Maybe we don't need another guy who can't make an active roster.

I would also think with the rate that our secondary gets hurt and with the New Orleans Saints coming to town, maybe it would have been in our best interest to pick up an extra defensive back.

They had Hass who had great hands even if he wasn't fast

and still couldn’t find a way to get him on the field.

I wish they would play Hass!

He knows how to run routes and he catches everything in sight. Wow now thats an idea.

I feel like the Bulls have been rebuilding for like 10 years......... oh wait they have!

Naw, that's ludicrous

That’s an intelligent thought process; I think you’re givin em too much cred.

Adding Aromashodu is part of a bigger plan....

To land T.J. Houshmandzadeh in the off-season, and give the Bears the craziest named WR tandem in NFL history.

I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

If that is the plan

that is the first good thing they have done all season.

good depth behind Dusty, the real worries are DE and WR

The depth of D tackles is pretty decent actually, Marcus Harrison, Anthony Adams, Tommie Harris, Izzy Idonije……the Bears actually address those areas well, the middle has been pretty good at stuffing the run. The problem is that our D ends are under sized and over matched, even with offensive lines doubling up on Tommie. Ogunleye, Brown, and Anderson are there for speed, not for size and strength. The Bears have a great opportunity to draft a first round Defensive End with speed, size, and strength. In the draft they have fared better on defense anyway, excluding Greg Olson and Matt Forte of course, big steals for the Bears.

At Wide Receiver they are in so much need for a perenial pro bowl like receiver. Unfortunately I don’t see them spending another 40 million or so for another wide receiver. So it might have to be a proven veteran free agent signing, hopefully someone under 30. Any thoughts?? Devin is a great weapon, but he is at least 2 seasons away from being a number one go to guy, or 30 pounds and a few inches of height away. He is more of a situational receiver best to be brought in advantageous circumstances

I don't think Dusty should be a Bear next year...

Just throwin it out there…

1. He can’t stay on the field.
2. He got a ton of playing time this year as a starter from week 1… and wasn’t much of a difference maker anyway, on a line that couldn’t generate much of a pass rush all year long. Meanwhile, Anthony Adams had 8 tackles last Sunday (Dusty’s career high was 5 against Atlanta in week 6).

Remember Marc Columbo

Doesn’t he start for the Cowboys now?

Columbo had an absolutely horrible injury

It took him a long, long time to rehab, and the Bears ran out of patience. It’s a different story.
When they parted ways with him, he was horrendous in the pre-season. I actually remember watching one of our undrafted free agent RBs, run behind Columbo, and shove him into a defender to create his own running room.

Dusty wasn't awful until the Packer game

but really, everyone was awful then.

He just hasn't been the difference maker that we thought he would be.

He’s not much of a pass rusher… zero career sacks.
Nor, does he occupy blockers to free up anyone else.

They haven't asked him to play the pass though

He’s played the run very well. And done his job.

If he's signed for another year, keep him around.

At the very least, he provides depth.

Aromashodu

Played some for the Colts last year. Nothing spectacular, but he’s got some potential. Granted, looking at the Bears current receivers, he won’t see the field.
