If you have been reading the site for more than an hour
you’d know that the Bears need pretty much everybody to lose.
They cannot clinch this week, so they don’t have a playoff scenario yet.

Bears need a lot of help
I’m not 100% on this, but I don’t think we win the tiebreaker against anyone, so we need to win our playoff spot outright. So, here’s what we need. We need to win both our games in every scenerio
1) Minn to lose two
2) – Philly to lose to Washington this week…Next week, Philly beats Dallas.
- Atlanta loses to Minn this week…loses to St Louis next week OR
- Tampa loses to SD this week…loses to Oakland next week
3) – Atlanta loses two AND Tampa loses 2
So, clearly our best chance is for Minn to lose two tough games against Atlanta and the Giants.
I believe if Tampa, Philly, and Minn win today, we are done…is this correct?
Again, I did this quickly, so I’m not positive that this is right. There may be a scenario where we win a tiebreaker

Correction
Ok, I lied, we can actually win a tiebreaker over the Cowboys. Assuming they lose to Philly next week and we win our last two games, we’ll have the same NFC record at 7-5.
Thus, it comes down to games against common opponents, which include: Philly, Green Bay, and St. Louis. We went 3-1 in those games, they went 2-2 (again, assuming they lose to Philly next week), and we’ll own the tiebreaker.
Thus, I believe we are alive no matter what happens today since Minn or Atlanta has to lose. So, even if Tampa wins out, we can make it if Atlanta loses out and Philly loses once.

Nevermind
If Dallas loses to Philly, we need Philly to lose this week to Washington. And, if we win twice, we’ll have a better record than the Cowboys.
Ok, I’m done trying to figure this out…let’s just hope we get some magic over the next two weeks and sneak in.

vikings are gonna choke
The best shot my team has is to win the division. Atlanta is going to win today, I have no doubt in my mind about that. Im just scared about that New York game. Their gonna be resting all their players and stuff. If minnesota does beat atlanta then we have like a 10% chane of winning that wild card spot. we would need atlanta and tampa to lose out and philly to lose 1 of 2. We would win tie breaker over dallas which is good news. So that is why our best shot is to take the division and run with it. LETS GO BEARS

wild card will be nearly impossible
we’ve got to win the division. if turner has a good day, i think atlanta will win. the giants have nothing to play for next week, but coughlin is a hard ass, plus they need to get jacobs back in some sort of rhythm, so i expect they’ll play pretty hard against the vikings next week. we still have to go 2-0, which may be tough considering how good houston has played at home lately.

not to get bogged down on scenarios
Unless I’m missing something, the Bears lose a tiebreaker to Dallas. If they win their last 2, their conf record is 7-5, while if Dallas beats Philly creating a tie, Dallas’ conf record is 8-4. The Bears are screwed anyway.

another awesome performance by the cardinals so far
they are a one-dimensional team, and are badly exposed outside of their division. i figured that was the one game the vikings would definitely win in their last 3. let’s hope the falcons run wild with pat williams out. we need the division title to make the postseason – too many teams have to lose for us to get the wild card.

Not True
A lot of the wild card teams are losing or have lost. We would still have a shot.
It’s just that just like they have to win their games – we have to win ours. We can’t just assume that because the right teams lose we’re in. If the right teams lose, we have a chance.

Unreal....
Here’s my quick take on the Vikings game, so all the trollers can see:
1) You lost because you fumbled the ball, what, seven times? And lost four? Sorry, you deserved to lose any game when that happens.
2) Last play of the game, both WR and CB were going at it. Easy PI call on either team.
Anyone see the end of the Philly – Washington game? WOW. Close as hell.

I see this happening next week...
Giants will play their starters for the first half. The backups will come in, but will still play hard because they are playing for jobs next season. So depending on which Vikings show up next week, we still have a chance. Once again, this is all moot if the bears don’t win their next two.

i'm not saying they won't play people
or they won’t play hard. I do think they will
I’m simply asking people to get their facts straight. Last week people were saying we wanted Dallas to beat the Giants so the Giants would have something to play for against Minnesota, which was asinine because it did the exact opposite
now we have people saying we want the Panthers to win so the Giants will have something to play for, which again isn’t a fact
no matter the result of tonight’s game the Giants motivation is the same. Whether Coughlin will rest players or not i don’t know, but the result of tonight’s game should have no impact on the decision, and i simply wish people would get their facts straight.

can you prove
they’d have more if they lost?
as for the “random score”, this was your argument for how they played with meaning last year its about 5 posts up
So was your point above completely meaningless along with mine, or do you want to come up with another point to contradict your one above?
As I said before, the result of last night’s game has little impact on their “motivation”, based on their playoff positioning. This doesn’t mean they won’t come out and play good football and give it their all, it simply means whether they won or lost, I’d imagine they’d come out with the same “motivation”.
I personally, think the Giants will come out and play a good game wanting to keep momentum going into the playoffs, as they did last year. I just don’t happen to think the result of last night’s game made one bit of difference and so far you’ve chosen to argue that point by stating the following:
“Just like last year’s game meant nothing”
and the post above about a random score (which is interesting, to call it random… ya know… since it was the ACTUAL score not some made up one of the Week 16 game last year that preceded the Week 17 game which you used to make your argument prior)

My point is that neither of us truly know
I was being facetious….you bit anyways, so here we are. Regardless, if we’re gonna argue it, let’s do it.
Last season, the Giants were NOT the team to beat going into the NFC playoffs. The Packers & Cowboys looked great, and it was assumed by many that the Super Bowl ran through one of those teams. The Giants weren’t the confident team they are now. They literally got hot at the greatest time possible.
So, with that backdrop in place, Coughlin obviously pushed his team and didn’t give them a break.
You really think Coughlin will sit his guys now?
My point is: It may not have made a huge difference in terms of the playoff hunt, but I bet last night’s game would’ve made a big difference in terms of Coughlin’s demeanor. And since he’s, you know, the head coach, that’s a difference.

are you not reading my posts...
because if you were, you’d see your question was answered
“You really think Coughlin will sit his guys now?”
like here:
I personally, think the Giants will come out and play a good game wanting to keep momentum going into the playoffs, as they did last year.
I guess I could engage in what’s different in this year vs. last year and cite reasons I think they’re more likely to play guys this year, but then I’d essentially be arguing by myself in a corner and completely ignoring that we’re saying the same thing (I’m simply saying the result of last night didn’t matter, I STILL think he’ll play his guys)…. oh wait… that’s what you’re doing right now!

Personally doesn't mean logically
I personally think the Bears should not run the FB dive; Lovie feels it’s logical to keep that bullshit play in there. Those two don’t mean the same thing.

you've done it again
is this inadvertent? Or do you continue to refute your own posts just 3 posts down as some way of “baiting me”, i don’t get it.
To recap:
You say last year’s game was indicative of the Giants in a situation where they would not have anything to play for as an argument against… well i’m not sure what it was against (i guess a point you thought i was making that the Giants would lay down, which i wasn’t)
Then the next post you say how the Giants result last night would matter if they lose because they’d be more motivated.
I go back to your original premise, citing the fact that they WON in Week 16 the year before in the game YOU BROUGHT UP as an indication of why they’d play people
You call this a “random score” and then ask me to prove the Giants motivation
In your next post, you TITLE the post saying neither of us could possibly know their motivation
now here… you’re claiming LOGIC as a way of suggesting you do KNOW their motivation
Is this some new wave form of argument where you negate all your own previous points?
I’ve used “Logic” to show that i didn’t think they’d rest players regardless of the result (Citing last year’s Week 16 win, which coming off of that with NOTHING TO PLAY FOR, they still played all their guys and played hard).
As for other LOGICAL arguments for why last night’s game didn’t matter. How about the fact that this year they have a built in week of rest with the Bye, which they didn’t have last year.
So If (follow me here, this could be REALLY difficult for you, my thoughts and comments are going to be consistent and lead in a linear direction. This concept seems to baffle you) the Giants played all out last year when the week of rest was not built in because they didn’t want to lose their edge. Wouldn’t it be “logical” to think again no matter what the result last night, they’d want to play all their guys and keep their edge this year, since they already have a week built in to rest after Week 17????

Easy broski
You’re taking this way more personally than I am….holiday season got ya down? I know that Christmas thing is a big pain in the ass, but lighten up a little bit.
Again, using your profound and all-knowing logic, you have shown that we’re arguing the same point. Now, at this point, you’re going to have to find someone else to argue with. Since we agree (and seems have agreed), find someone else to play with.

The only ways we make the playoffs are:
Both scenarios require the Bears to win their next two games. If we lose any, we’re pretty much out.
1st and easiest scenario: Vikings lose next week’s game against the Giants.
2nd scenario, more difficult because it involves more teams: Eagles need to beat the Cowboys next week and Tampa Bay needs to lose against the Raiders.
These two are really are only legitimate ways of getting in. Both are doable, but it’s a moot point if the bears don’t win their next two.

Don't count out a tough Giants team
next week against the Vikings. The last thing Coughlin will want is to go into the playoff bye week on 3 straight losses. Assuming that the Giants continue to get pounded this evening, which it is looking like it. The Giants will want to make sure that they are out of this losing funk and ready for playoff football. But, this is all a moot point unless we get the job done tomorrow. I just don’t see Coughlin giving up the last week of the season if they are coming off a 3rd straight loss.

Bears vs. Packers
37-3 Bears.
So, if I am reading the two options correctly . . .
we can either a) keep dye or b) trade dye . . . is that you Phil Rogers?

Man... watching that incredible Panthers-Giants battle
Just validates why we need to add another good RB to compliment Forte. Williams-Stewart and Jacobs-Ward were the formula all game for both teams in late December.
Forte and Michael Bush would be a nice duo. Of course… they’d need an actual offensive line to run behind.
I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

forte and kevin jones wouldn't be bad
jones ran pretty good when the bears actually gave him carries earlier in the year. unless he’s hurt, not using him more to spell forte is yet another example of why our team has some of the worst coaches around.
