2009 Opponents

Via SI.com, the 2009 opponents throughout the league are up now. It looks good for us, as far as these things go-

Home: Detroit, Green Bay, Minnesota, Arizona, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Pittsburgh

Away: Detroit, Green Bay, Minnesota, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Baltimore, Cincinnati

Anything can happen in an off-season - nobody predicted that the Dolphins and the Falcons would be in the playoffs this year, you know - but assuming there aren't huge strides taken by the NFC West, the Lions, or the Ohio teams, I can definitely see an easier path to ten wins than this year's schedule. The only real powerhouse teams are the Steelers and maybe the Ravens.

Curiosity...

Do they just randomly choose 2 divisions for each division to play against every so many years?

Like we (mostly) have the NFCW and the AFCN in this schedule.

Methinks

It is on a schedule, but I’m not so sure they make that schedule public. I may be wrong, but I seem to remember Colin Cowherd talking about that last year at some point on ESPN radio.

it rotates each year

each year they play one of the four AFC divisions and one of the remaining 3 NFC divisions, plus the 6 games in your own division…that’s 14 right there.

Then 2 at-large games versus teams in your own conference from the other 2 divisions that finished in the same spot in their division. In this case, Philly and Atlanta finished 2nd in their division.

although the home/away games are unknown, you can successfully predict 14 of the Bears opponents each season for the next 20 years if you wanted (and assuming they don’t change anything).

2011 – AFC West, NFC South
2010 – AFC East, NFC East
2009 – AFC North, NFC West
2008 – AFC South, NFC South
2007 – AFC West, NFC East
2006 – AFC East, NFC West
2005 – AFC North, NFC South
2004 – AFC South, NFC East
2003 – AFC West, NFC West
2002 – AFC East, NFC South

seems like it could go either way

besides Detroit which would need to hire Parcells to turn it around in a year, all those teams could easily go 6-10 or 11-5. Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Atlanta could be really, really good next year.

Plus

Bengels and Seahawks have QBs returning. Should still be winnable games but that road schedule is a lot harder then it looks at first glance.
