Faneca rumor....

"Rumors: Bears Targeting Faneca...The Chicago Bears are prepared to offer Steelers OG Alan Faneca a rich multi-year contract when free agency kicks off at 12:01 am est."

I'm not quite sure I like the idea of breaking the bank on a 30 something year old lineman.

I've cooled on my dislike of this.
Seeing the cuts of Muhammed and the probable cut of Griese, I see the Bears aren't completely against cutting veterans past their prime. Faneca will make the team better and the contract won't look bad this year and probably not the next. They'll probably cut him a year too late or something, but they're non-guaranteed contracts. I was most against before because I felt the Bears were unlikely to cut high-costing players or something.

As with signing Berrian for more than what he's worth, though, these are things that a team must do to "rebuild on the fly". They have to spend smart, draft smart and get lucky and they'll be fine in a year or two.
