Kevin Jones being released

Lions RB Kevin Jones has stated that a team official told him that he will be released, due to "the injuries and the contract -- business decisions" according to Jones.

This is kind of a surprising move, although Jones has suffered terrible setbacks with first a Lisfranc injury and then a torn ACL, significantly clouding his future and leaving his 2008 season up in the air. I highly doubt the Bears will give him a sniff, since the last thing they need is another RB who can't stay healthy. This raises an interesting issue of what the Lions will be doing in the draft, since they probably don't think Tatum Bell is a feature back (although this is Matt Millen we're talking about here). With just scraps left in free agency, I wouldn't be surprised to see them snatch up Mendenhall with the 15th pick if the Bears pass.

Speaking of RB's
the one from Oregon had toe surgery (Stewart) and is out 4-6 months. They say he might drop to the 2nd round.

Be a heckuva coup to get him there....

This may
ultimately help Angelo pick up some extra picks. If everyone knows the Lions are set to take a RB at 15, people would have to think they are targeting Mendenhall (since Stewart is likely out of the first round). Anyone who wants Mendenhall knows that they have to get above 15 to get him. So the Bears would be in perfect position to move out of 14 and get extra picks.

I could see the Cardinals, Texans, Cowboys and Giants as potentially interested.

Kevin Jones...
... is not a very good running back.

When a team wants Tatum Bell to start over you, you aren't that good.
