Warrick Dunn Asks To Be Released

With the signing of Michael Turner and the steady play of Jerious Norwood, as expected Warrick Dunn has asked the Falcons to be released.

Assuming the Bears are not planning on taking Mendenhall in the draft or cannot find a suitable guy to bring in to challenge Benson.  What is your thoughts on Dunn?

He would be a change of pace and he has been fairly steady in his career.

Dunn
Steady, yes. An upgrade over Benson? Hardly. I really would like to see Mendenhall's name called with the 14th overall pick. Dunn's ok but I would think his best days are behind him.

Dunn's Stats
Dunn had only 44 more yards than Benson on 31 more carries and averaged 3.2 yards/car to Benson's 3.4 and they had the same number of TDs. No Dunn.

Upgrade
I think it's an upgrade over Benson.  But, I don't know what I'd want to offer Dunn.

Benson's biggest issue is his lack of vision.  He only hits a hole straight ahead.  In the NFL, it's very rare for any hole to not have at least one defender who is covering it.  A successfully back in the NFL knows how to hit that hole at the appropriate angle to get around the defender who is covering the hole.  Benson's lack of vision is the reason for so many 2-3 yard rushes.

I'd like Dunn
I think...

Falcons were so bad last year it's hard to get a read on how much was due to Dunn getting old or just because the Falcons were so bad. Generally regarded as a decent receiver I believe as well.

Over 4 YPC for most of his career....

i still think
Cedric has got a chance of having a 1200 yard season if the oline is fixed. I doubt the bears sign any other free agents and will turn to the draft, hoping to continue their recent good forturne in the later rounds.

i think this injury
is the end for him.

Same here
I was one of his biggest supporters, but the injuries are a problem. This is why you don't take 4-year starters at RB!!!

I'd be thrilled
with a Mendenhall/Flacco draft, but we still have yet to do anything about our line.

The Jets just put Faneca and possibly Woody on their line, yet we haven't even scheduled a visit yet?

maurice williams
should be their new o-line target. he has played effectively in JAX and he has the size and skill to hold up at RT. I am higher on Metcalf than most but i think he could play at LG. that leaves us with a line of tait, metcalf, olin, garza, williams with st clair and beekman as backups. they could then select a developmental OT prospect in the 3rd or later and the oline doesnt look that bad

Dunn seems to want to stay
in the warm weather states...

so far has contacted Dallas, Tampa and Houston.
