WCG Mock Draft - Atlanta Falcons

CURRENT SELECTION
Glenn Dorsey
Defensive End
LSU
ANALYSIS: With their need for a Running Back addressed via free agency, the Falcons will be looking looking towards the defensive side of the ball for their first pick. Glenn Dorsey falling into their laps has to be a dream come true. A true difference maker at Defensive Tackle Dorsey brings a winning attitude to team in desperate need of one. The 2007 Nagurski, Lombardi, Lott, and Outland Trophy winner, as well as a consensus First team All American and All-SEC started a 14 games for the National Champions. Despite being double, and sometimes triple teamed, Dorsey finished the season with 69 tackles, 7 sacks, and 12.5 tackles for loss. He was a monster in the biggest game of the year, the BSC Championship game against Ohio State, registering 5 tackles, a sack, and forcing a fumble in LSU's victory. Dorsey will be starter from the beginning and a rock in the middle of the Falcons Defense for years to come.

Good pick
If his tibia stress fracture is a dead issue he'll be the next Sapp. He's gotta ditch that necklace, though.

Solid pick...not great
Dorsey is one of the best players in the draft. If that injury does not linger on, he should be good to go. In my eyes, Matt Ryan would have been a better pick. The Falcons could have taken Ryan right here and then drafted some offensive lineman in the 2nd and 3rd rounds so Matt Ryan would be protected and Michael Turner could have a good line to run behind. The Falcons would look good if Matt Ryan was their QB, Michael Turner was their RB, and they could have a young offensive line.

Quick turnaround
the quickest way to turn your franchise around is by building a defense.

So, if you are a garbage team with so many holes, you can quickly get some quality defensive players and start to show improvement.  At least a solid D with a bad offense can stay in some games.  A solid O with a bad D gets you blown out.

I dont' think
Bears fans will argue that one.

not me
I completely agree that a good D with a terrible O still makes a 9-7 team...
