QB Situation

I'm doin this mainly out of curiosity and boredom.  But with the upcoming draft and needs at numerous positions, is a new QB on hold til maybe next season?  It seems to me that we have more important needs at the RB position and the O Line. In my opinion I'm ok right now w/ Orton and Grossman and someone in the draft. I think the verdict is still out on both of em, for Orton we really haven't seen enough of him, he could end up being the next big thing (I'm just throwing that out there). A lot of QB's that sit on the bench and absorb information turn out to be at the worst a decent starter. I still have that gut feeling that our starter for the future is one of them, but I'm probably wrong. With all this being said, if we build up a good O Line and draft a good running back that is better than what we have and can at least get 1,000 yds this season, would we all be ok with it? I'm not trying to predict the season record, just simply asking everyone if the QB situation is ok to put on hold.

i don't really like the qb's in this class
if flacco fell to us in the second, then we should take him. the other guys are just projects.

i think that we should take one of those in the middle-rounds then take a qb of the future next year (unless grossman or ortman step it up).

ya
thats why I posted this diary, b/c I think if we fix the other needs that we can hold off on the QB position.  But Flacco would be a definite choice

uhm
I dont think we should take a qb in this draft, maybe just one to be a place holder in a late round, like 7. I like ortman, I think behind a decent line they could succeed. And about joe flacco, everyone compares him to andrew walter, doesnt that scare anyone here.

not really
because I hear alot more Big Ben comparisons, but I would rather wait and see.

unless the running game
is upgraded significantly we're looking at another high pick next year anyway. I have no problem watching grossman or orton get pounded into the dirt while they look for an open crappy receiver; which will definately be the case if this line/rb play like last year.

if flaaco falls and you don't have a better rb/ol/ss option, sure grab him, or if you are convinced he is a winner. at least this time they are targeting someone who can see over his center's ass.

i see
it this way, as much as I despise JA and I know many of you feel the same, I dont think he's as dumb as we think anymore.  I know he just got a contract extension, but his job is still on the line if he doesnt improve our team from last year. We do need a rb/qb/ol/fs/dt/wr, but maybe its not as bad as we think it is, he obviously  has some sort of positive plan, b/c no one is dumb enough to have that many holes and not even work the FA market. I could be totally wrong with all this, but I'm willing to wait til April 26th/27th and see what he does in the draft and come May if nothing seemed to work out in the draft then I will be the first in the "our team will suck again" line.

They need one this year.
If they wait and OrtMan busts, you're looking at 2008 and 2009 being "wasted" seasons (don't forget I was in favor of this at one point). RB's are built by their line. Also, RB's can be found anywhere. It's not likely, but Ryan Grant was the 4th string RB for the Giants at the end of training camp!!! And let's not forget they have Ahmad Bradshaw and Derrick Ward still.

Oh, and Thomas Jones was half a pile of poop before he came to Chicago. And who the hell was Willie Parker?!?! Or Brian Westbrook or Frank Gore or Marion Barber or Selvin Young?

Third round or later is fine, but I'm sorry, I'm fully on the train that says you don't take a RB on the (new) first day, unless you already have the QB and offensive line sewn up.

Ok,
supposing Clady is gone (likely) and Williams is gone (possibility) who do you take?

Otah is considered raw and won't be ready to go.  Do you draft a linemen you can't start right away?  Baker, Albert and Cherlius are not considered good picks at 14.  There is no guarantee that we will be able to trade down.

Who would you take?

You'll just have to wait for...
...my mock draft pick at this point. ;)

Draft
a white receiver.  That will keep a thread going for months.

Why!
Why do you feel the need to anger me.  We all know who that comment was directed at!

wow
Im impressed tyger, I mean you make perfect sense in the fact of drafting a QB over a RB, but we've always been a run first team like it or not I think thats what we're best at working with. The Jets, Ravens are also like this, they'll never have a big name QB, besides Joe Namath that is, to run their offense. I'm ok with a great run game and a decent pass game, I mean it worked for us in 85 and 06. But you have still got me thinking on taking a QB in the 2nd, early 3rd.

too many needs
i really hope we don't draft a QB. i might be in the minority, but i think rex/orton will be decent enough IF they have time to throw. we better sign/draft a LT and G. i'm okay with taking a flyer on someone later (past round 3), but not before that - we can get a starting LT/RT (depending on what side tait will play on), a starting G, and maybe even a starting RB or safety (i love mike brown, but if we go into another season assuming he's the starting FS, somebody shoot me) with our first 4 picks in rounds 1-3. those could go a long way towards us being good next year. unless the bears believe there is no hope for either rex or orton, i wouldn't draft a QB until round 4 or 5...too many potential starters to be had for a team with multiple holes.

White Reciever
It would be nice to have Tom Waddle back again. Ocho Stinko, that was a brainfart.lol Washington
paid him alot of $$ and didnt even play him. wait a minute, they paid alot for Archuletta and didnt play him either. Why are we trying to recycle Redskin trash? Is this some kind of conspirasy? Is Dan Snyder the second gunman on the grassy knowl?

In all reality
Lloyd isnt a long term plan, we got him for dirt cheap on a 1 year deal, its mainly a tryout. If he doesnt work out then he'll be benched, but I have more faith in him here than Washington, plus maybe a reunion with Turner and a chance to be a higher up receiver is what he needs, I dont know. But whatever the case is we didnt hafta spend anything for him and I'm willing to give him a chance.

Hill earned the starting job for the 2009 season by beating out Alex Smith, who missed last season after re-injuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder. Head coach Mike Singletary largely chose Hill based on his play down the stretch last year: he went 5-3 over the final eight games and he also owns a 5-0 record at home in Candlestick Park.
