Chicago Bears Schedule
The NFL has released this year's schedule and the Bears will play 5 games in prime time.
Along with opening at Indianapolis on Sept 7th, they will have a Sunday night game against the Eagle(Sept. 28), a Monday night game versus the Packers (Dec. 22) and a Thursday night game on the NFL network versus the Saints (Dec. 11).
They also have a Nov. 30th game versus the Vikings, but that is in the flexible schedule time frame, so that one could be moved.
The Bears will be at home for the Eagles, Saints and Packers game and at the Colts and Vikings.

I don't disagree
It requires at least the pick up of a game ready tackle and a healthy for the year defense.
To actually be competitive it needs enough oline improvement to make the run game a threat (which may be multiple lineman), an actual receiving threat, and a heatlhy defense.
Oh, and a quarterback who doesn't shit the bed.
So assuming we draft a day one ready tackle that improves the entire line, and that cedric benson isn't a bust or injured again, and hester or bradley step up, and grossman or orton step up, and the defense stays healthy, and people kick to hester...we should be better than last year's 7-9.
Right now we don't win 5 games.

Agreed
Looks like an 8-8 schedule to me. I hate 8-8--not bad enough to get a difference making draft spot, not good enough to make the playoffs, not bad enough to make the coaches/gm think they need to do anything that different.

We COULD be
We haven't had any big losses on D, but our top 2 players are both coming off significant injuries, and are unhappy with their contracts.
Maybe Angelo will have a great draft, but he needs at least 2 and maybe 3 draft picks to step in and be solid starters in order for the team to be anything over mediocre. That, and he needs his current guys to stay healthy.
I'd love to feel the same way as you, but reality bites. This team is at least a year away.

Ok
@ Colts - L (too tough for opening day at their new stadium)
@ Panthers - W (someone please tell me what's so tough about Carolina)
Bucs - W (potentially one of the worst teams in the league this year)
Eagles - L (this one could be close, the Eagles are on a downward slope)
@ Lions - L (oh, hi Rashard, nice to see you... hey, stop running away!)
@ Falcons - W (please...)
Vikings - L (Bernard, stop it)
Lions - W (we finally figure out how to keep the unstoppable Jon Kitna in check)
Titans - W (completely toothless)
@ Packers - L (who's this kid taking the snaps? He wants to make a statement!)
@ Rams - W (see: Bucs)
@ Vikings - L (I hate these guys)
Jaguars - L (they'll make a serious run this year)
Saints - W (we've owned them recently)
Packers - W (Ryan Grant isn't surprising anyone anymore)
@ Texans - W (we may be playing for a playoff spot at this point, and they'll be finishing out another losing season)

i agree with your conference picks
2-4
a competent offense, and healthy defense is pretty subjective, I'll buy into a healthier defense, but if it doesn't feautre Mike Brown or Mike Brown level production, it will still be poor against the run. As far as offense, I don't see a scenario where they draft enough day one ready people to make the offense competent. That's a lot of rookies stepping up.
All I'll say about the rest of the schedule is that this team struggled against the OAKLAND RAIDERS last year. Think about that. A last minute play to beat one of the worst teams in the league. Right now its the same team, except assumed better health and assumed major draft gains. Last eyar I said this team didn't do enough in the offseason or draft to keep up. Now their worse. Awesome.

We're in agreement on this.
They were lucky beyond belief in 2006.
They were unlucky in injuries, but lucky in a few game situations, so 7-9 is probably a pretty decent indicator of their abilities, unlike the 13-3 the year before.
The Bears had one of the worst offenses in all of the NFL last year, and it's gotten worse at every position except TE and QB. They will have to draft some real good players for it even be as "good" as last year's team. It will have to draft standouts or get some big step-ups in production from current players if they are to contend.

the point
beating the packers twice and almost losing to the reaiders shows the flaw of this team, they play up and down to thier opponents. a lot of that is coaching and a lot of it is not being very good. that same team that wasn't very good last eyar as of right now is worse.

05 defense was better
my analysis is above.
"We did that with a garbage O-line, drop happy receivers and a RB that hit the hole with about as much force as a leaf hitting the ground."
all of which we still have, and for any improvement would require almost every draftee to step up and contribute at a high level immediately.
