Brian Urlacher Willing To Retire?

UPDATE:Not that you'd expect him to say different, but Urlacher is refuting that he said he would retire.

Whoa, whoa, whoa and whoa!!!! What the hell is in the pizza in Chicago?

Take a gander at this article.  If this is correct, then Bears MLB Brian Urlacher is using some pretty underhanded tactics to get his contract extension.

One league source says Urlacher's agents have asked the team if they could explore a trade. Another says Urlacher is threatening to retire because of neck and back problems, a move in which he wouldn't have to repay any portion of the $13 million signing bonus he received in 2003, when he received a nine-year, $56.65 million deal.

Listen Urlacher has been good for the Bears and in return the Bears have been good to him.  He signed a contract. I have no issue with him asking for an extension or asking to redo the deal for more up front money, but there is a time and a place.  Urlacher of all people knows what happens when there is no line in front of him, so he needs to take a step back and let the Bears take care of more pressing matters. Namely Tommie Harris.

How many games would the Bears have won without Devin Hester?

Obviously, I don't know any of this is true, but I  don't like where it is headed.

How can
he demand a new contract AND say he might retire because of his back and neck problems? That seems a little contradictory.

Trade him for Chad Johnson or Boldin.

This might be the problem.
Maybe his neck and back ARE so sore that he's scared that one wrong hit could end his career*, and he wants to try to get more money now in case that happens.

I seriously have no problem with it. He'll play. If not, I like your idea.

I put the asterisk...
...to note below (and then I forgot) that I understand "one wrong hit" can happen anytime, but that, with his issues, maybe he's more concerned with it.

Way to taint your legacy
I never took him as the crybaby type.  Maybe his neck is really in bad shape and he just wants to add a bigger pile of money to his already big pile of money before he retires.  But if that's not the case, he's just being a dick.

This is exactly why
I don't care about the name on the back of the jersey, only the name on the front!  It's amazing, the way are economy is right now, that these assholes can seriously be pissed they are only making $55 million over 9 years.
GO BEARS!!!!!

Dude, get over it.
What? He should not ask for more money so you're not bad that you got laid off or that the McKaskey's don't go broke or something?

Let's bitch about the countless CEO's running bankrupt companies yet still pulling down 8-figure bonuses. It's obviously cool to root for the name on the front of the jersey (after all, that's really all we are doing), but let's not call the guy an asshole because he has one good skill in life and is trying to maximize his earning potential before he gets paralyzed or crippled for life at the age of 30.

Seriously, in this such "crappy economy", people are still spending their money on overpriced entertainment like going to games, TV packages, jerseys, fatheads and other shit. Besides, shouldn't the argument be, the economy is in the dumps so Urlacher should try to get as much money as he can now?

Why?
I said what I said because i meant it.  This is a Chicago Bears football blog, if we were on a Greedy CEOs blog, I would definitely bitch about how unfair their contracts are.  Why should I get over it?  Was it my decision for these players to say the hell with education and thinking about my future, i want to play football and risk being severly injured.  No, it's there decision.  Just like it's their decision to handcuff themselves by signing 9 year contracts.

It's pathetic that these guys, year after year, complain, hold out, demand trades so they can work better contracts, etc. all so they can have their house on MTV Cribs.

GO BEARS!!!!!

games
Maybe is having to pay more for the baby mama drama and he needs the $$$

The other thought is that this is agents playing games.  Brian better come out soon though and say something directly himself or he will loose EVERYONE's support and faith.

Maybe he wants to join his buddy Jason Taylor in Dancing.

I agree with his agents
trade him. He is done and It is vey likely his successor (Jamar Williams) will be a better player in 3 years anyways. We could probably get a mid second rounder and a fourth for him.

ok.....
Yeah, and Ronald Curry/Jerry Porter were supposed to fill in nicely for the loss of Randy Moss when he was on the downside of his career too.  Good call on trading one of our best defenders (granted, maybe not quite what he used to be but still nothing at all to complain about) for draft picks.

2nd and 4th
i think we could get a 1st and a 3rd for Urlacher. he's one of the top 5 LB's even with a bad back, except when he got juked by TOM BRADY! that was sooooo bad.

I'd rather
hold off on talking trade until I had not other options.

There's a Tribune article...
That states Urlacher said he was never going to quit...

I don't have time to link it; can someone else follow it up?

I dont know if that works or not.  But he says is did not threaten to quit or ask for a trade. And goes on about how he hates talking to the media and he wants to play for 12 years in Chicago.
