Shaun Alexander

Shaun Alexander has been released by the Seattle Seahwaks.

Star-divide

Sure, he is injury prone, but this could save the Bears a draft pick that they could use somewhere else.  And sure, he may break down and not be useful whatsoever.  So what?  As much as I dont want to say it, this year we dont have a chance to do much seriously... So if this doesnt work out, we still have another offseason to find a RB.  And who knows, Ced Ben could turn around or even Garrett Wolfe could emerge.

So all in all, it wouldnt hurt to sign Alexander for 4-5 million for this year, throw in a mutual option for another year or two.  What do you think?

Alexander is a waste of space.

Shaun Alexander has looked pathetic for a couple of years, injured or not. He is a waste of money and roster spot. Like at WR the last couple of years with Moose, when you bring in vets they take time from the young guys. This is why we have so many current questions about Mark Bradley. I would rather see Wolfe and a rookie get more time, than see Alexander soak up reps and money and most likely not perform.

Kick it to me... I'm open!

Really?

Wolfe? Really? Don’t you understand that he is not an NFL running back?

On the fence...

I do believe Alexander is not at the peak of his game right now, but he has been injured. I don’t know if he can recover to what he was 2 years ago, but I bet he’s better than what the Bears have now. The bears desperately need a proven running back, and this way our focus can be on rebuilding the offensive line and other dire needs in the draft. Selecting a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round does not get you a sure thing. When you need help at OLine, WR, RB, and QB. I think free agents may need to be looked at. Is he worth a HUGE salary? Hell no. But I think Alexander is good enough to consider.

Nah

It would cost too much money for a guy who’s past his prime, made of glass, doesn’t block, and doesn’t receive anymore. We need a rookie who’s not a headcase to mold into a Bear.

Jettison Benson

I’ll be happy as long as we jettison Benson sooner rather than later.

I’d rather see us going young by sticking with the guys we have, or maybe taking a chance on a late-round RB in the draft.

With this OL, RBs will be earning their money and yardage. Ouch.

jettison benson...

... and play who?

Peterson isn’t a starting running back in the NFL, and neither is Wolfe.

Benson has shown ability, both in 2006 and before he got injured in 2007.

Benson sucked in 2007

The guy has no heart and gets hurt every year. He showed some ability in 2006 when he was fighting for playing time with Jones. We will draft a back somewhere in the first 4 rounds. Heck who knows if Benson is healthy enough to even play for the Bears this year!

Isn't Benson

still a young back?

HE's

not recover from his injury well either. its suposedly taking longer then expected.

i like benson

but i don’t think he’ll come back to 100% soon enough or ever. So either grab mendenhall or sign alexander and draft a rb in the 3rd and let him develop.

by tempchad on Apr 25, 2008 1:42 AM CDT reply actions

only

if we can get him really cheap…...then he’d be worth it just to have a vet at that position…...comming off of a MVP season in 05 he knows how to play the position and can help develop younger players if thats the role he would be comfortable with.

by SuperBowlXX on Apr 25, 2008 12:38 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah

we need another guy who can’t catch or block, has lost a step and is completely dependant on his o line for any yards.

by mike b on Apr 25, 2008 12:55 PM CDT up reply actions

I think we should either take Mendenhall in the first or take someone like the guy from Texas in the second/third.

I’d take Alexander as a backup if he is cheap. That however would completly fill the backfield with Wolfe, draft pick, Benson, Peterson and Alexander.
