I can’t wait for this to get started. Here is what I think it going to happen today:
1) Jeff Otah
2) Brian Brohm
I looked through several Mock Drafts that were updated as of yesterday, and there are some interesting options. Most of them have the Bears going with Otah, and if they don’t, the other majority was Mendenhall. I think I’d be happy with either since we could use both.
The second round will be interesting. I’d think that if Brohm dropped past the Ravens which is now expected, that he’d fall into the second round at least. If he was there, I’d see no reason not to pick him up unless there is a good RB there.
Some Mock Drafts had the Bears going with Dennis Dixon and John David Booty in the third or fourth round. That’d be interesting.
I think one thing is for sure. The first three rounds will include a O-Line pick, a RB, QB and WR. That would use up all four of our 1-3 round picks.
Okay, enough rambling. Just four more hours…

First Five...
It looks like it’ll be something like this one through five:
1) Jake Long
2) Chris Long
3) Matt Ryan
4) Glen Dorsey
5) Darren McFadden

I really hope we can get Otah or Mendenhall in the first and Brohm in the second. That’d be a nice first day IMO. Then in the third we could get whatever we don’t take in the first (RB or OL) and a WR. I can’t wait to have the weekend over and see what we have. I wish the whole thing was today.

O-line
I might be in the minority here, but I think we need to go Tackle, Guard in rounds 1 and 2. Then in 3+ take the skill guys. We need 2 O-line starters not just one (unless the mysterious, un-used Beekman is any good). A good line makes all the difference. See Cleveland last year vs the many, many years before.
What’s the over-under on SB*Nation going down during the draft – pick four?
Otah / Brohm might be the ideal scenario, but I don’t see Brohm lasting until 44.
Going Tackle/Guard 14/44 wouldn’t be terrible either.
The worst-case scenario is probably Mendenhall (one year wonder) / Henne (always sucked, still sucks), but it wouldn’t surprise me if they went that route either.
Insert clever and witty remark slash pun here!
whoa whoa whoa
mendenhall a one year wonder? c’mon dude, he didn’t start as a soph but posted an 8.2 ypc which led to him being the starter as a junior.
and henne hardly sucks, just can’t stay healthy. great football iq, but no matter who we pick at QB they probably won’t be ready for 2 years or so.
I guess
O-line, RB, WR, O-line in the first 3 rounds….
unless Flacco or Brohm are available in the 2nd round….

I'm pumped.
I bet it will be O-line in round one but if they pull out a trick and take a Mendenhall, I will be happy. I also am willing to bet $50 that Jake Long goes number 1, hahahaha.
Hey WCG did you get at least 10 entries for the Draft Challenge?
by Sam Householder on Apr 26, 2008 11:08 AM CDT reply actions
No
I have about 4 for each. I am still keeping score for bragging rights though.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
I think
I’ll have about 4 right in the first round. Counting Jake Long. Which would be on par with most mock drafts.
by Doctor Chicago on Apr 26, 2008 12:08 PM CDT up reply actions
I'll take that bet,
if you bet me $51 that St. Louis takes Chris Long.
"I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying" - Michael Jordan, the one and only...
Let me rephrase that,
I think St. Louis will take C. Long. I dont think I was clear on that. lol.
"I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying" - Michael Jordan, the one and only...
It seems like
the Saints trade involving Jamaal Brown so they can move up to get Glenn Dorsey probably isn’t going to happen, so if the Rams stay at 2 the obvious choice is Chris Long.
by Doctor Chicago on Apr 26, 2008 12:26 PM CDT up reply actions
I think this all BS
Jake Long going first? How unrealistic! I quit!!!! (that is my best impression of Tyger)
that was tomas21

How would you all feel
if say Albert fell to 14 for the Bears and they had the chance to get Sam Baker in the 2nd? Would you be willing to bypass RB,QB,WR if we could bolster T and G?

I wouldn't take
back to back o-lineman. Albert in the first would be ok, but i don’t like baker at all. I’d rather have a running back or trade up to get a big name QB than take Baker in the second.
I am like your Dan Aykroyd and biglow would be Jane, the ignorant slut. -Chad
Ok, substitue Baker
with the second ol of your choice. Interested?
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
I don't see franchise
besides Jake Long, I don’t see the can’t miss anchor tackle in this draft. Otah, Clady, Williams, they are not Orlando Pace or Jonathan Ogden. Therefore, get one in the second round!

I don't see it
unless a stud drops down. He has pretty much said he will go offense.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
i know i know
i’m hopin for mendenhall, love to have a u of i stud in our backfield. o-line seems to be the popular vote right now, i just hope if we do go o-line that guy is ready to come in and start from jump, because that is what we need and that is why i was an advocate of us signing a few fa lineman. it is easier to bolster an o-line in the short term through FA…and you can get good long term o-lineman later in the draft therefore you use your early picks on skill position players.
Its being reported
that St. Louis has decided to take Chris Long, so another pick we can’t anticipate.

McShay
just said he thinks Ryan, Flacco, Henne and Brohm all go in the first round.
And Dikta is talking about the 65 Bears draft, what kind of prediction is that?
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
Actually
his prediction is that nobody will have a draft like that. Well, duh! How often is a team going to get players the caliber of Butkus and Sayers? That is once in a lifetime situation.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
Seriously
I have this brand new 47” flat screen. Yet, I am still watching the draft on a 25 with all the crap ESPN has floating around the edges.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
exactly.
plus, if you get the HD channel you get an even smaller picture because they have HUGE blue bars on both sides of the friggin picture, it is absurd.
I don't have
bars on the side on ESPN just junk.
The NFLN is it even really HD? I have bars on the side for that channel.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
They may not be broadcasting the draft in hd
if you see bars on the side you are watching standard def on a HD channel.
And you are right, auto refresh is awesome.
They took away
NFLN in HD on my cable system.

Compares To: D’BRICKASHAW FERGUSON-New York Jets…Like Ferguson, Williams relies on finesse moves and his long reach over power. Both need to improve their overall strength and add bulk to handle the demanding task of playing left tackle. Williams might be a better fit at guard early in his career, so as not to expose him against speedy edge rushers. He can mirror the quicker defender in the short area, but he is marginal taking on second-level defenders and needs to improve taking proper angles when working in space. He has the frame to get bigger, but needs to play with more tenacity. He is a smart student, but will miss a few assignments due to mental lapses. With just adequate hip snap, he would be a liability starting at left tackle as a rookie, but he has the makeup, size and desire to improve.

ummm

I am like your Dan Aykroyd and biglow would be Jane, the ignorant slut. -Chad
Compares To: CEDRIC BENSON-Chicago…Bears fans might not like reading this comparison, especially since Mendenhall has attained “favorite son” status in the Windy City. Both are well-built runner with thick frames that are best served running between the tackles, as neither has that blazing speed you want in an outside runner. Mendenhall capitalized from his only season as a starter into a future NFL contract, but while he has made marked improvement in 2007, there is work to be done. He knows how to pick and slide, but there are times he will just run right at a defender rather than elude. His ball distribution needs total refinement, as he has a knack for swinging the ball wildly when he runs. Like Benson, that leads to a high amount of costly fumbles. He is a good receiver out of the backfield and relatively durable, having never missed a game due to injuries. While he should be a first-round pick, with strong post-Combine workouts, he still has a big learning curve ahead of him.

You can still hate me and agree with what I say.
Anyway (and I hate getting myself excited about this because it WON’T happen), but Brohm is a steal at 44. Which is a better pick in the second: Brohm or John Beck?
And honestly, I won’t hate the Henne pick. I think he’s got about as much ceiling as Brohm (which is pretty good but not great), but I think he has a considerably lower floor. He’s less of a sure thing.

I should change that....
...just read (very quickly) through ESPN’s blog and a comment there said that some felt Henne “passed” Flacco on the draft boards. If that happened, I’d guess that a chance for Brohm is better than I thought, and I’d be less displeased if they “settled” for Henne.

Wait, the Jets don’t even pick before the 44…

I'm surprised though
that it’s Jordy Nelson over Sweed or Kelly.

Anyone think Philly takes Brohm or Henne...
...and looks to trade Donovan?

No, they took Kolb in like the second last year.

That's right. Thanks.

you guys are all hot on Brohm or Henne?
Is that what i’m reading?
I'm not big on Henne, but it seems that teams are.
That helps me if they draft him there, but it doesn’t mean it’s a good pick. I think Brohm is going to be a steal from this point on. I don’t see how he can’t come in and be an average QB in the league by his third year on. That’s worst case scenario. I think he’s likely to be an average QB in just his second year and could be a Top 8-10 QB for his 4th-9th seasons or so. I’ll gladly take that. Best case, I think, is that he settles in to that group of guys right behind Manning and Brady 3rd-6th “best”, meaning he could be one of the better in the league by the time he’s done.
I think the best case scenario is about as likely as a bust, though.

So I guess there is a good chance he is still there. Just the 49ers would cinsider him IMO.

I mentioned that earlier
once all of htem started dropping. If the Bears like Dixon or Smtih or O’Connell it wouldn’t be a bad pick.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
I really don’t want a WR until the third. There aren’t a lot of good ones and Brohm has a chance to be a pretty good player down the line.

Jordy Nelson 4.59 40! Great pick!
and i can’t tell but is he white?
I think he's white!
A slow white wide receiver?
!
?!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Todd McShay said that he thinks the Bears would like Brohm. He also said that the Vikings are hoping he’ll fall to 47. Hopefully they don’t trade up…

Ozzie Smith is hte GM of Baltimore?
Rich Eisen thinks so
Just down to San Fran.
Baltimore, San Fran, Buffalo and Denver should all take WR’s.

And maybe the Vikings if they trade up…
What would it cost us to move up say two or three picks here just to secure him?

Side note
Isn’t Jerry Jones, Shelly Marcone from The Last Boy Scout?
Ironically enough
Pacman Jones will probably bring a gun onto the field this season.

JA is good at what he does
I don’t think he takes somebody stupid, but if he doesn’t take QB or WR it wouldn’t be surprising or necessarily a bad thing.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
I know
I just really want Brohm and don’t want the Bears to pass for a RB or WR right now thinking they’ll take a Dixon or Woodson later…
