I can’t wait for this to get started. Here is what I think it going to happen today:

1) Jeff Otah
2) Brian Brohm

I looked through several Mock Drafts that were updated as of yesterday, and there are some interesting options. Most of them have the Bears going with Otah, and if they don’t, the other majority was Mendenhall. I think I’d be happy with either since we could use both.

The second round will be interesting. I’d think that if Brohm dropped past the Ravens which is now expected, that he’d fall into the second round at least. If he was there, I’d see no reason not to pick him up unless there is a good RB there.

Some Mock Drafts had the Bears going with Dennis Dixon and John David Booty in the third or fourth round. That’d be interesting.

I think one thing is for sure. The first three rounds will include a O-Line pick, a RB, QB and WR. That would use up all four of our 1-3 round picks.

Okay, enough rambling. Just four more hours…

First Five...

It looks like it’ll be something like this one through five:

1) Jake Long
2) Chris Long
3) Matt Ryan
4) Glen Dorsey
5) Darren McFadden

I really hope we can get Otah or Mendenhall in the first and Brohm in the second. That’d be a nice first day IMO. Then in the third we could get whatever we don’t take in the first (RB or OL) and a WR. I can’t wait to have the weekend over and see what we have. I wish the whole thing was today.

O-line

I might be in the minority here, but I think we need to go Tackle, Guard in rounds 1 and 2. Then in 3+ take the skill guys. We need 2 O-line starters not just one (unless the mysterious, un-used Beekman is any good). A good line makes all the difference. See Cleveland last year vs the many, many years before.

by MuleTrain on Apr 26, 2008 10:36 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What’s the over-under on SB*Nation going down during the draft – pick four?

Otah / Brohm might be the ideal scenario, but I don’t see Brohm lasting until 44.

Going Tackle/Guard 14/44 wouldn’t be terrible either.

The worst-case scenario is probably Mendenhall (one year wonder) / Henne (always sucked, still sucks), but it wouldn’t surprise me if they went that route either.

Insert clever and witty remark slash pun here!

by ES46NE10 on Apr 26, 2008 10:45 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

whoa whoa whoa

mendenhall a one year wonder? c’mon dude, he didn’t start as a soph but posted an 8.2 ypc which led to him being the starter as a junior.

and henne hardly sucks, just can’t stay healthy. great football iq, but no matter who we pick at QB they probably won’t be ready for 2 years or so.

by lopey986 on Apr 26, 2008 12:37 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I guess

O-line, RB, WR, O-line in the first 3 rounds….

unless Flacco or Brohm are available in the 2nd round….

I'm pumped.

I bet it will be O-line in round one but if they pull out a trick and take a Mendenhall, I will be happy. I also am willing to bet $50 that Jake Long goes number 1, hahahaha.

Hey WCG did you get at least 10 entries for the Draft Challenge?

by GallopingGhost on Apr 26, 2008 11:08 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No

I have about 4 for each. I am still keeping score for bragging rights though.

I think

I’ll have about 4 right in the first round. Counting Jake Long. Which would be on par with most mock drafts.

by Doctor Chicago on Apr 26, 2008 12:08 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'll take that bet,

if you bet me $51 that St. Louis takes Chris Long.

Let me rephrase that,

I think St. Louis will take C. Long. I dont think I was clear on that. lol.

It seems like

the Saints trade involving Jamaal Brown so they can move up to get Glenn Dorsey probably isn’t going to happen, so if the Rams stay at 2 the obvious choice is Chris Long.

How would you all feel

if say Albert fell to 14 for the Bears and they had the chance to get Sam Baker in the 2nd? Would you be willing to bypass RB,QB,WR if we could bolster T and G?

by Doctor Chicago on Apr 26, 2008 12:29 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I wouldn't take

back to back o-lineman. Albert in the first would be ok, but i don’t like baker at all. I’d rather have a running back or trade up to get a big name QB than take Baker in the second.

besides Jake Long, I don’t see the can’t miss anchor tackle in this draft. Otah, Clady, Williams, they are not Orlando Pace or Jonathan Ogden. Therefore, get one in the second round!

by WCG on Apr 26, 2008 12:39 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i know i know

i’m hopin for mendenhall, love to have a u of i stud in our backfield. o-line seems to be the popular vote right now, i just hope if we do go o-line that guy is ready to come in and start from jump, because that is what we need and that is why i was an advocate of us signing a few fa lineman. it is easier to bolster an o-line in the short term through FA…and you can get good long term o-lineman later in the draft therefore you use your early picks on skill position players.

And Dikta is talking about the 65 Bears draft, what kind of prediction is that?

his prediction is that nobody will have a draft like that. Well, duh! How often is a team going to get players the caliber of Butkus and Sayers? That is once in a lifetime situation.

Personally, I’m hoping for Mendenhall or Otah and then Brohm in the second if at all possible. They said that the Ravens really like Flacco and would move up to get him in the second…

NFLN

I’d rather shove broken glass into my ears than listen to Berman.

Who do you guys like best for O-Line that will likely be available for us? Otah or someone else?

probably clady or albert

but i’d still take shard over any of them.

Yeah

I think the average fans always wants the skill player. You just can’t get all that excited about a linemen. But we do need that…

I’d like for us to take Mendenhall in the first and Brohm in the second.

I’d take someone like Flacco too. It’ll be interesting to see what QB we draft…

by Twins Territory on Apr 26, 2008 2:27 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i know this is a late reply

but what is sad is that we could have had shard and brohm…fuckin gay.

by lopey986 on Apr 27, 2008 5:14 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So

Mendenhall won’t be able to find holes and Brohm will be on his back on half the plays.

by Doctor Chicago on Apr 26, 2008 2:24 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, we’d really need to address the line, but that’d be pretty sweet to get a RB and QB that has a potential for a nice future. Probably not a big shot though…

Williams

I’d love to stay up and watch the Bear’s draft a tackle but it’s getting late here. I’ll read about this in the morning, take care.

so I don’t have to hear him say The Raiders any longer.

They have spent a lot of money the the D-Line this year, so I guess it makes sense not to make another investment there. But it’s shocking to me…

Does anyone else

Feel sorry for Thomas Jones? He’s a solid back, not a HOFer or an amazing guy but a solid consistent back and now TWICE in THREE years a number 4 pick by his team is used on a RB who is supposed to be the next big thing.
