a 6’1’’ corner with 4.36 speed? sounds like he could be a cromartie type player
hes pretty tall

if i remember correctly
i think cromartie had injurie problems too… though not to the same extent as bowman
Just a reminder
Does everybody know about the Shift A option to remove the yellow from new comments?

a 6th round pick
is hardly a cause for alarm. It’s not a bad idea to develop your own backups and you never know what he could turn into. Having said that, Colt Brennan will never develop into a pro qb.
I'm calling it...
Mike Dragosavich or Kellen Davis

gonna be a defensive position in which we dont even have a need

doesnt this happen everyear
everyone bitches about picks on draft day like they know anything about the players and they usually end up pretty good. i dont see whats wrong with drafting a monster 6’7’’ tight end to replace gilmore.
we just have other needs
gaurd, wr, lb, dt, and uhm qb.

the problem is not with what we got
its about what we didn’t get….
by Sox Fan Louie on Apr 27, 2008 1:52 PM CDT up reply actions
The good: This huge and gifted senior tight end is one of the fastest-rising prospects in this class after a strong finish to his erratic career. He played both defensive end and tight end over his career and recorded two sacks as a senior. He is an imposing athlete with a combination of rare size and athleticism. He is a fast-developing receiver. He has big hands and upper-body strength that should allow him to grade out higher as an inline blocker with better technique. The bad: As a receiver, he still needs extensive repetitions at catching the ball, releasing off the line and route running to be ready for playing time. His production has not met expectations. He needs to show the work ethic to continue to improve off a strong finish to his career. He also must address some off-field issues.
Outlook: With some strength improvement and consistency as a blocker, he could be a complete player within a short time. He is capable of becoming a huge factor in a team’s passing game and a top-flight NFL performer in the right setting. This marginal top-125 prospect would be an excellent pickup for the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears or Cincinnati Bengals.
that makes me feel a little better
both dez and greg are hard workers, maybe they can kick his ass into gear
Other than replacing Gilmore, no.
My friends are trying to push me further into being pissed by giving me shit (A Colts and Steelers fan) but I am starting to buy one thing they are saying: We aren’t choosing a QB. We will pick up a vet and then go for a good one early next year.

There has to be a plan
There’s no way this is the end goal. There will be a vet or something done within a month that will make this lack of QB-attention make sense.
i really like this draft
i think that getting chris williams will help so much because maybe now we will have at least 3 seconds to pass the ball. i think forte is a good fit for us and i cant find one negative about bennett who seems like he can be a real good one.
how about short and slow?
those are two negatives about bennett
In his amazing video
He says he’s 6’1”.

if only
it was a conscious decision to tank and get tebow that would be better than actually thinking rex is the man
Super Bowl XLI MVP Rex Grossman
Chicago Bulls Captain and Starting Point Guard Kirk Hinrich
the lack of a QB pick tells me...
that they don’t feel like any of these guys are worth trying to take the time to develop. I understand the frustration with Orton and Grossman but given the fact that it does take a couple seasons to develop someone it doesn’t make sense to go QB if you aren’t going to be committed to developing him. all that being said i wish we’d take a flyer on woodson.
also I think Bowman, given his size, will be looked at as a S rather than a corner.

by Doctor Chicago on Apr 27, 2008 2:04 PM CDT up reply actions
I am beggining to think there was never a plan
the only reason they went o line in the first was because JA would have been shot while trying to justify the rest of the draft if he hadn’t taken the linemen with the first pick
by Sox Fan Louie on Apr 27, 2008 2:05 PM CDT up reply actions
JA will probably say
“We looked at the marketplace and realized that we didn’t want to over-pick guys. We felt good about the guys we had available and how we graded them out. Would other teams in our situation have taken different players? Probably but we didn’t want to give up too much for a guy who was going to want a lot more money.”

I'm done for this year.......
I thought they would actually take a gamble on Josh Johnson, but they aren’t that ballsy. Maybe if he would have blown out a couple of knees they would have considered it.

how have u liked what uve seen from JA and company?
by Sox Fan Louie on Apr 27, 2008 2:14 PM CDT up reply actions
I am ok
with the Williams pick.
Forte was a bit of a reach, but if that is the guy they like I’m ok with them moving up.
I am a little worried about Harrison and Bowman both coming off injuries, but both have 1st round talent, so if they can come back they could be big time for us.
I have no idea of what the Bears are taking a TE for.
And I am now rooting for no QB this draft. I don’t want anybody who is left.
So I am ok with the draft, but not overly excited about it.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
who were you hoping for at QB?
I really only liked Flacco in the 2nd and Woodson if he fell after the 3rd…
by Sox Fan Louie on Apr 27, 2008 2:20 PM CDT up reply actions
I liked Flacco
but if they took any of Flacco, Henne or Brohm I would have been ok. Doc talked me into O’Connell, so I would have been ok with him, but now we are in the 6th, so we are hoping for a Brady type deal. How many 6th round QBs turn out to be starters?
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
not many...
but say woodson somehow gets to our first pick in the 7th, is there any way JA can justify not taking him? I mean even with the 5th pick i was shocked…
do u have any idea why so many teams have passed on him when he was projected as a 1st rounder as late as a month or two ago

did schmidt get drafted?
I would like him on the bears
what is Angelo doing?
He started off pretty well with drafting Williams and (I guess) Forte. But since then nearly all of the picks don’t make much sense. There will be 6 safeties and 4 tight ends in camp!
2008 Cubs: Why Beat A Team in Regulation, when you can beat them in extras?
Yes but
two of our safeties are Mike Brown, who hasn’t finished a season, and Arch, who sucks.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
true
however what explains that TE selection?
2008 Cubs: Why Beat A Team in Regulation, when you can beat them in extras?
i am hoping more two TE sets
rex can actually see them over the middle, which could make up for the lack of good wrs
JA
Well buddy hope your ass it out the door with grossman this year, you better pray he pulls it off and all your reaches do to.
we needed a safety, everyone knows that, as well as a RB, DT, and OT (and WR), so a lot of these picks make sense
its the two
that make no sense that are pissing me off. how much value can you expect get form the 7th round? i guess we’ll find out.
too slow and too small, I could run away from him

The good: He is a stocky, mobile lineman who played end and tackle, and performed well at each position. He plays with good leverage, comes off the ball quickly and uses his strong frame to gain penetration into the backfield. He is a strong outside pass rusher who wins on speed and power. The bad: Lacks ideal size for end. He needs to develop further hand use, and must add more pass-rushing moves.
Outlook: He is one of the most underrated prospects in this draft class. He will be drafted on upside and because of his versatility. He’s a top-175 player.

From SI.com
BIOGRAPHY: Two-year starter used at both tackle and guard.
POSITIVES: Stout, wide-bodied blocker who’s at his best in a small area. Plays with good lean, fights with his hands, and jolts defenders at the point. Strong, anchors in pass protection, and keeps his feet moving throughout the action. Works well with teammates and keeps his head on a swivel.
NEGATIVES: Rumbles around the field, not light on his feet, and marginally effective blocking in motion. Struggles to adjust. Lacks balance and lateral blocking range.
ANALYSIS: Adams has flashed ability the past two seasons, yet he has not met the expectations of NFL scouts. He possesses the size to compete at the next level, yet his determination falls far short of his physical skills.
PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

Someone explain to me...
...how New England, Pittsburgh, the Giants and the Packers (2!!!) take QB’s and the Bears don’t. Seriously. This is probably one of the worst drafts I’ve ever seen. This is a draft you do when after a Super Bowl season and you’re looking for depth. Holy fucking shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. It’s just so weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeird. I just wish I knew what the hell they were thinking. That’s all I want to know: “WHY?”
"I've got a class (coming in) here, we've got a chance to do some things." --Tom Izzo on why he might not consider the Bulls coaching vacancy.
I really don't like being confused. Decisions people make should be rational and logical.
These are not, and it bothers me.
"I've got a class (coming in) here, we've got a chance to do some things." --Tom Izzo on why he might not consider the Bulls coaching vacancy.
So do you want to
Cuss out Larry Meyer when he writes on ChicagoBears.com that the Bears were well advised not to take a QB and that it will be better for them to pick up a veteran when we all know that the last two months he has said “The Bears will probably pick up a QB on the first day of the draft to groom for the future.”

I finally get that. I'm slow.
I concur.
"I've got a class (coming in) here, we've got a chance to do some things." --Tom Izzo on why he might not consider the Bulls coaching vacancy.
The only thing
that makes sense to me is they have a trade in the works, or they know a qb they like will be cut. They need 3 qbs, and they need a qb for the future on the off-chance that Grossman can’t throw off his front foot or Orton can’t throw over 10 yards.
I really don’t get why they wouldn’t use their 5th or trade into the 6th to take a flier on Andre Woodson. There must be a reason they guy fell, but he threw a 40:1 Td to int ratio in the SEC last year. I personally can’t think of any good reason to not take a chance on him with a late round pick.
I thought this draft started out predictable and uninspiring for the Bears, but it really took a turn for th worse after the third pick. I would’ve like them to trade up with Buaffalo in the 1st to get Clady, would’ve like to see them use a second on Brohm or a later pick on Woodson. I like the receiver, but that’s about it. I give Angelo a C- for this draft. You can’t get anything higher than a C if you despearately need a qb of the future and completely ignore the position. It’s on thing if you need a OG of the future and don’t find one that suits you in the draft, but a QB?
DEJESUS!!!
There's a phenomenon in corporations...
...where a boss who is responsible for hiring a person who turns out to suck just can’t admit he made a hiring mistake, so that boss sticks staunchly by the guy and refuses to admit it was a bad hire. After a while, he can’t even admit it to himself and really can’t perceive the reality. Maybe that phenomenon is at work here: “If we replace Rex, we’re admitting we were wrong. We MUST keep Rex. He WILL improve, and then my decision will be vindicated.” It’s the only thing I can think of to explain the near-stubborn avoidance of a QB draft pick.
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
damn
I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeealy wanted Demetrius Bell. Damn you Buffalo!

Here's some vid of LaRoque on YouTube
My husband (bartender for 25 yrs) said after watching for 15 seconds, “He needs to quit smoking the f*ing dope first. He’s on it right now in that interview!” Judge for yourself. They show some practice footage toward the end.

In my opinion, he needs to lose the Alice in Wonderland hairband before heading to any locker room.

Chicago should
take the full 10 minutes to make the next two picks.

Yes
I know we don’t need it. But we worked him out. So why not

The Good: Barton graded out well at a high level of competition in the Big Ten and has the physical tools to start at right tackle as a pro. He is very strong at the point of attack, displays a shocking hand punch and the ability to drive with his legs and create holes in the running game. In pass blocking, he sets up quickly and displays good hand use to stop a rusher’s initial move and is technically sound to mirror and slide. The Bad: His footwork is only adequate at best in pass protection, and he is not very athletic or flexible. Sometimes loses leverage and can lunge at defenders if he does not get his hands on them early on the down to gain control.
Outlook: While not physically gifted, he is very technically sound and will always give his team a solid day’s work from start to finish. Clubs like the Jets, Browns and Dolphins are interested in him as a strong side tackle, and he will be a great middle round value for a patient club that gives him more time.
Marcus Monk
Any relation to Art? They could bode well, haha

Marcus Monk
The Good: Monk has strong hands and utilizes his big frame well to adjust to the ball. He shows toughness running across the middle and has the ability to hang on to the ball after taking a hit. He has all the makings of a fine possession receiver. The Bad: Monk has marginal separation speed. He underwent two minor surgeries on his knee last summer and didn’t play his senior year until midway through the season. His lack of quickness off the line is a concern.
Outlook: Monk will compete for a starting role at some point in his career if he progresses on the finer points of the position. He needs to read coverages better and find the openings in a zone defense. He should compete for a job as a No. 3 receiver early in his career. He ran fast times in the 40-yard dash at Arkansas’ Pro Day, which probably moved him into the middle rounds. He’s a marginal top-125 pick.
Somebody should have told Chicago managment that "OT" isn't the abbreviation for Quarterback.

Draft upon first look...
The only pick I couldn’t see a lot of value is the TE in the 5th. With Clark and Olsen do we really need another? Thoughts?
your not alone
maybe its a replacement for gilmore. hope he can block. i found quite a few picks odd. de,cb,lb
i read an article on PFT
saying he could be moved to defense, seeing as he played some DE last year. still doesn’t make sense, though.

hey guys
great job!
Hopefully you got everything in your stockings that you wanted.

well this draft was somewhat disapointing
Angelo seems to be gambling on players with great talent but low stock due to injury. If it works in our favor, it could be a decent draft. The draft was awful in the mid rounds, but I guess those last few picks were decent
2008 Cubs: Why Beat A Team in Regulation, when you can beat them in extras?
Agree with you Chanman
on JA’s draft strategy… I really liked the late picks and Forte is growing on me. Monk was projected to go 3rd or 4th round by SI and Fox. Keeping my fingers crossed that he isn’t just a Mike Williams with knee problems. But I guess at worst, he’s a Moose with more size and better hands.
So did Angelo forget
that we only have two quarterbacks? Or will we sign an unrestricted draft choice..
2008 Cubs: Why Beat A Team in Regulation, when you can beat them in extras?
we'll probably sign someone who gets cut
someone ok always gets cut in june. i’m okay w/out drafting a QB. it was a very weak class. we weren’t getting matt ryan, all the flacco hype reminds me of kyle boller (ironic, considering who picked him), henne isn’t that great, especially under pressure. brohm’s not bad, but i don’t see him being anything more than a decent nfl QB. i really think he’s getting made into something much better than he is, which always happens when the talent in the draft isn’t that good. i could’ve seen taking him in the 2nd round (definitely the 3rd, had he dropped), but i’d rather take a RB who will probably produce pretty well immediately. i actually would have preferred we get a guard in the 2nd round and take a RB in the 3rd round, but whatever.

whers’s he at? did we honestly give him a fair shake?

They can’t go without a 3rd string QB, but I have no idea what they’ll do.
Insert clever and witty remark slash pun here!
How many RBs
are we gonna carry this year? All 4? I suppose they could use AP for just special teams.
put AP on special teams
benson, forte, and wolfe should be the main 3. see what kind of shape benson shows up in. seems he put on some weight last year. if benson’s in good shape coming into camp like he was his first 2 seasons, and with the much-improved o-line, i expect he’ll do pretty well. if he doesn’t, forte will definitely supplant him and this will be benson’s last season here. best-case scenario, i see benson getting most of the carries, but forte still getting a nice handful (10 or so), wolfe getting 5, and lots of slants and short patterns in many 2-TE sets. we actually may have the makings of a decent smash-mouth football team – this of course assume ron turner actually calls plays that take advantage of what we have.

We can carry 4
Peterson is still a dangerous receiving threat.
