Chicago Bears Sign QB Caleb Hanie

Calebhanie_medium
The Chicago Bears signed another QB as an undrafted free agent.  At least this time I had heard of the guy if only through Mel Kiper's obsessive stance that he should have been drafted. Colorado State quarterback Caleb Hanie signed with the Bears and brings his 64% completion rating with him.

Hanie also received calls from Indianapolis, Dallas, St. Louis and Buffalo

Caleb Hanie

Height: 6-2 | Weight: 225 | 4.9

If anybody can find me some decent info on this kid, please sent it to me.  Thanks

Forty Time

ESPN has his forty time at 4.9.
Any ESPN Insider out there ? Pleas give us the skinny on this guy.
I like his completion %. If he run a $.46 forty that will be a big plus.

Weird

LOL
46 cents the preview didn’t show that.

I switched his 40 time

I only found one place listing a 40, so I went with it, but if you all have found 4.9 I am cool with the switch.

And this video of him throwing a football and this video of him running with a football.

as long as mel likes him...

better than nothing but seriously is this the way to address the qb situation.

I don't know

I like that we signed two guys but that was a no-brainer we always do. But neither of them are the ideal QB size and that is a big concern for me and obviously none of the other teams wanted them. But hey I suppose its better to come into Chicago with low expectations than all the pressure of a first round pick.

both are taller than rex

are you worried about weight? or are theys till too short?

I guess that makes it a little better

But isn’t Rex 6’1” so these guys only have an inch on him. But Yeah I guess I like to see guys 6’3” or more. That’s not to say these guys CAN’T be good just b/c of their height.

Overstatement

Grossman is listed at 6’1”, but he’s more like 5’11” 3/4

I know your entitled to to your opinion, but if you going to voice it on a public forum shouldn’t you have some knowledge of what you’re complaining/criticiz ing/babbling about!? I have seen Caleb Hanie play for the last 4 years for Colorado and 2 years prior to that. Not tomention he’s been playing since he started walking. Of course I think he is awesome, but my opinion does not count because I am not a Scout/Agent/Coach. That is their job and they are hired for a reason. Because they know football, live and breath football and are educated to make these tough decisions. Not one of them has their head so far up their a… that they have lost touch with what their job requires of them or what is required for the players that they sign on. Bottom Line: Colorado did poorly last season. Doesn’t mean Caleb did. And for you “CSU Fan” wasn’t Lubick asked to resign this year, and offered a “Fund Raising” job at the University instead? Scouts/Agents/Coaches have studied lots and lots of film for him from the past 4 years. And have seen him practice/play at the Texas Vs. The Nation All-Star Game. They know what their doing that is why it is their job and not yours. He is good, he is smart and he is a strong player. He will go far beyond what anyone expects of him, because that is what he is. You will be surprised what the future holds for the Bears if they eventually play him. He was a smart move that was not overlooked by other teams. He chose to come here. Other teams did persue him, such as Indianapolis, Dallas, St. Louis and Buffalo. Try this link http://www.weshow.c om/us/p/2091/66_yard _td_pass

From a CSU Fan...

This is an objective opinion as I suffered through the last two years of horrendous Colorado State Football.

Had really high hopes for Hanie as he was highly regarded coming out of high school in TX. CSU has had some very good QB’s the past decade +, but Hanie wasn’t really anything but average.

He had good skill position players around him, but he turned the ball over way too much. Lots of INT’s inside the oppositions Red Zone, which accounted for quite a few losses.

I wouldn’t say he possesses much of a strong arm, but I do think he has pretty nice touch on the intermediate-deep throws.

Pocket passer…didn’t run much despite not having bad speed and was bigger than most LB’s he played against in the MWC.

Again, CSU was a good program that went South the last two seasons. Not Hanie’s fault, necessarily…but he turned the ball over a lot and his teams lost quite a few close games.

He’s another Moses Moreno. You should go after Bradlee Van Pelt instead.

Insider

doesn’t have anything but a scout grade, which was 30.

My Problem W/Rex

“Pocket Presence” or the ability to avoid the rush.
Two ways to avoid the rush; quick delivery (Rex has it) or with you feet ( Rex doesn’t have it)
With the 2007 version of the Bears offensive line you needed both.
6’2” is plenty tall enough. If Hanie runs a 4.6 forty that is a plus for him and for the Bears.
That’s why I wanted the Bears to draft Josh Johnson (water under the bridge).
I used to think “pocket presence” was instinctual but, but Brian Anderson has proved me wrong. He had what seemed like no “pocket presence” at Oregon State – he sure has learned this with the Browns. If the Bears are going to stick with Rex our only hope is that he learns it also.

Duh – mixing up my sports.

we need

our o-line to hold up before we can really see what rex/orton/benson can do for us. it all starts in the trenches.

Brian Anderson

Maybe you’re hoping that the Sox’ Brian Anderson can play QB. The guy’s quick and has a strong, accurate arm.

Hanie

I hope this is a good start to the Bears offense, Mel Kiper likes the entire Bears draft any thoughts?

Caleb Stat Break Down

Here is a breakdown of his game log from this year and his four year summary, noticed he was sacked 34 times this year and 37 times last year, looks like he has been preparing for the Bears offense for the last 2 years. :)
