Urlacher To Skip Voluntary Workouts

Seriously, can we just not catch a break?  It took two seasons to finally get Lance Briggs under contract and now we have to shift to Brian Urlacher all the while still trying to get Tommie Harris signed to a big contract.

Urlacher is planning to skip voluntary workouts due to what is being labeled as "unresolved contract situation".

Obviously I wouldn't expect this deal to get as messy or loud as the Briggs ordeal, but it is still something they have to deal with.

Early thoughts are that Urlacher is looking for an extension.

It is not a big deal as of yet.  If the Bears don't get things rolling and we start hearing rumors of missing mandatory events, then we can talk again.

interesting
I wouldn't call Urlacher's 07 season anythign to be excited about. Not sure what a guy with a supossedly chronic back problem and declining play expects to get.

from his standpoint...
he has one more payday, so obviously he is going to do it when his production is still high and before the small back problem becomes a big one and he misses out.  smart move by him, hopefully he is reasonable though given all circumstances.  I would have no problem with the Bears rewarding him and I think he proved at the end of the year he can still dominate.

Deal with this!
Seriously even if the man does have chronic back problems he is still a great player and has been a leader and one of the most consistent players in his time with the team. Not to mention that he is, still, the FACE of this franchise. You do NOT screw this up. He wants to be a Bear for life, you let him do that. I am sure he isn't looking for that much MORE money. Seriously, if the Bears blow this I will be HELLA pissed.

However...
As you said, its still voluntary stuff BUT don't let this drag into training camp because what will that tell your other players? That you don't want to take care of your own vets?

buuuuuttt
if they just give him more money it tells the other vets that if they make a few threats they can get more money.  or at least Urlacher can.

it's a tough spot to be in.  i hope they give him a little bonus, not too much.
