Benson May Suprise

I know we heard all the amazing passing reports last year at of Bourbanois, but I'm going to throw this out for discussion.  It may be possible the Cedric is ready for a big season.  Lovie appears optimistic that he may surprise...

Will the starting running back position be Cedric Benson’s to lose or will there be an open competition between Benson and Matt Forte, similar to what will transpire at quarterback?

Blake
Waxhaw, North Carolina

It’s totally different. Matt Forte has never played a down for us here. He’s like all other rookies, starting from the bottom and working his way up. Cedric was our starter last year, and he’s our starter right now. For someone else to be the starter, they’re going to have to beat him out. I’m going to put Adrian Peterson and Garrett Wolfe in there also. We like what Matt Forte brings. When you draft a player that high, you’re expecting him to eventually play and have a role with your team. But Cedric Benson has looked good in workouts out here. I’m hoping that Cedric will get back to form and we see that guy that we know he is

It is not hard to read Lovie Smith.  If he sees a guy that might do well he makes it sound like an open competition.  If not he praises the starter and says everyone has a shot.  If he has to make the guy a starter even though he's not happy, he says Rex is our QW

Cedric is our Running Back

I won’t even guess how many times Lovie will say that. But that ankle injury was pretty severe, and i doubt Cedric has been able to get into top shape. Theres no reason to believe he will be any better than last year.

I think

Benson will actually put in some dedication and hard work to shut all the analysts and fans up about his “bust” status. W/ Benson as a starter and wolfe adding a change of pace i think we could see Forte utilized as a FB and have em both in the backfield in certain situations….. just my opinion and i doubt it will happen but we can wish

Benson

should be a Goal line back…...has the power and cant gain more than 3 yrds at a time…..if he’s on the 2 yrd line…he’s a shoe in. lol

Lovie always seems optimistic

- about GROSSman too. Need I say anything else? Benson’s next job will be on the garage door assembly line next to Curtis Enis.

It's Easy to forget

That Benson used to shine. I watched NFL Network replay the NFC Championship game last year and about a month ago the Bears comeback victory over the Pack in Week 4 or 5 in ‘07. He did show potential sometimes, breaking tackles and such but you wonder how much the line sucking hurt him. Will he or won’t he improve? I don’t know. Injury recovery plays a large role in this this. He will get a shot no doubt about it because “We get off the bus running.”

Hopefully he will surprise us all

He was a great back coming out of Texas and I actually thought it was a good pick when we got him. Hopefully he can live up to his expectations. A combination of Benson, Forte, Peterson, and Wolfe could be dominant if they all live up to the hype

well

considering everyone is really really down on benson at this point if he comes out and does anything useful it will be a suprise and if he sucks, well everyone will just expect that.

expect Benson to be better

but if Forte is as graceful and looks as good as they say( ya i know), then Benson could have a fight on his hands. imo, i think Benson and Jones brought out the best in one another. Hopefully we see that again.
