Is Deuce McAllister More Your Speed?

So rumor has it that the New Orleans Saints are interested in Shaun Alexander.  With the running corp they have I have no idea why, but apparently they are.  Moreover it is expected that if Alexander is brought aboard that could be the end of Deuce McAllister's stay in New Orleans.

McAllister is injury prone, but when he is upright he can be one hell of a back.  You can work a deal based on playing time to get around potential injury issues.

If the Bears decide it is time to ship out Benson, would you be interested in looking at McAllister?

We have enough

injury concerns on this team. I don’t think the Bears will keep 4 backs on the roster anyway. Unless they’ve given up on Wolfe, the Bears will imo go into the season w Forte, Wolfe, and AP. Benson has about a 10% chance being on the opening day roster. If it isn’t this incident, it’ll be because he’s slow and fat coming off his injury.

I'll take him.

If Benson is gone, I’m all for Duece. He can’t have any worse health issues than Benson and he is much more productive. He still has 2-4 years left in him.

I need to see a lot more out of

Wolfe before I am ready to put him on the roster. I can certainly see the benefit of his speed, but I can’t say I am ready to pass up a potential full time back for a situational one.

I say carry four or drop Benson

AP is going to be mainly a ST’s guy and maybe 3rd down back. I think giving up on Wolfe is wasting a pick. At least give the guy a chance to play the game. Have plays that fit who he is. Heck, I still want to see what Wolfe would do or should I say how fast and far he would get in a typical whole up the middle. The only wholes we had up the middle last year had blitzing linebackers running through them. Also, this year and next he should put on some muscle. With all that said, he may be a bad pick, but I would love to see him play before casting him off. Dude is fast.

Will the Bears keep 4 RB's?

Have they, in Lovie’s or JA’s tenure, ever kept 4 backs on the roster? I can’t think of a time when they did. I’m not against it, just trying to speculate if JA or Lovie would ever do it.

I remember reading somewhere

I think it was Larry Meyer who said he wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bears carry 4 RBs. I have no issue with it either. I love Wolfe, watched him in college and i really think that if Turner had half a brain he could come up with an excited Wolfe package. Whether or not Benson is on the roster, I say keep what we got.

We sighned a FA back

Matt Lawrence From U MASS. 6’1” 210 1500+ yrds and 16 td’s . not too bad. says he quick and moves well and will be a good contributor on ST.

I saw we signed him but that makes for 5 backs

We won’t have 5 RBs on the roster. There’s no way. Maybe one’s a practice squad prospect

by GallopingGhost on May 6, 2008 5:39 PM CDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Or

they plan to use AP exclusivly on ST.

As long as it isn't Benson

Having that whiney little snot wear a Bears jersey is a disgrace to the great Walter Payton. Everything that Walter was as a human being Benson is not. Nobody expects the grit and determination of Walter Payton from anybody but Benson is so far from it, it is sad.

With that being said, I would way prefer Deuce, he has been a work horse since he came into this league. When the Saints drafted Reggie Bush, Deuce just quietly put up a huge season. Yeah he gets hurt but wouldn’t you rather Forte learn something from him, than learn from “Cry Baby”Benson, or Shaun “fall down when you smell a defender” Alexander?

As for Wolfe… I’m with you guys. I’d like to see what he can do. If only Turner can come up with something creative Wolfe and Hester would be two killer situational guys.

Man I hope you do pick him up.

The guy is terrible. You must not have watched him play for us this year. You must get sick of seeing the Bears end your season. I think the Saints and Bears are starting to form a rivalry. I know I notice when they are on our schedule and also the Seahawks. I don’t know if anyone else thinks that or if the Saints are starting to feel that way.

Why cant we play you in a controlled enviroment? ( Sniffle Sniffle) Why do we have better
backs/recievers/QB and OL but, still cant beat Da Bearss. ( Sniffle Sniffle) We have your #, kinda like GB had ours for so many years.

In my personal opinion

Decent backs are hard to find…...Even inj probibly better then most who are at the position. so its in their best interest to keep him on the roster even as aback up if needed….neither Bush or Pierre can handle a full load.
