Where Do Olsen and Clark Rank?
So I head over to Mocking the Draft to read something different and I come across this list of all the TE's in the league. It is ranked according to who you would want to start on your team. Since we have a couple TE's I thought I'd see where they fell.
Olsen - 16
Clark - 42
OK, I know that Clark is down to 2-4 years, but he isn't even considered a starter in this league. Give me a break. On our offense he still shines and that is saying a ton. Give him a real offense and that guy is a stud. He does nothing but make big plays every time you need it. He is clutch, a great blocker, good hands, gets open, and what else do you want.
Well that is my opinion. Does anyone else think that is bogus?
Where would you rank each?
What does your top 10 look like?

i would
put dez ahead of greg olsen. Just because of the intangibles you mentioned. In this offense, the TE is asked to do so much more than catch balls. Dez is awesome and he and rex have the best chemistry after bernard left.

mocking the draft
might be the worst website on sbn, which says alot considering bleedcubbieblue is on that network.
those geniuses also didn’t see any difference between rashard mendenhall and cedric benson.

Des is top 15 at the least!!
There are three Chicago Bears on my offense that saved this team last season from being a 4-12 team. Devin Hester, Bernard Berrian, Des Clark. In the first packers defeat it was des clark who caught the game winning TD pass up the middle from Griese to win it. In the Broncos defeat in overtime it was Des Clark who made the great clutch catch from Grossman’s pass up middle field to set up the winning kick. Des Clark was part of the 97 yd. 2 minute comeback drill against the Eagles for a win with Griese. He also grabbed another TD pass from Orton against the Packers in the worst weather game of Brett Favre’s career. This guy is almost always in the picture when the Bears win. He is top 15 at least because even having to play with 3 different quarterbacks in one season he still excels. We are blessed to have a TE like Olson on the team now securing the tight end spot for years to come, he is blessed to have a mentor like Des Clark who I think after Moose’s cut, should be the offensive team captain. On and off the field Clark has leadership in his character.

I would put Clark in the top 15, probably at 13, and leave Olsen right where he is. That list is bad up and down.

Looking at the stats
Clark tied for 16th in the league for receptions among TEs. He had more yards and TDs than the two guys in front of him and had a better ypc average than 11 of the guys in front of him. IMO that already makes him a top ten TE.
Lovie Smith-isms:
"We get off the bus running"
"Rex Grossman is our quarterback."
"...and we'll go from there."

I hope Turner gets a lot of 2 TE sets on the field this year.
The TE position is a strength for us… use it creatively, especially in the running game (with our crappy guards). Would love to see the 2 TE set be our most common formation… so we can run or pass out of it without any predictability. Olsen can also create a lot of mismatches for us in that formation. Last year, when they had him lined up on the outside at WR (like the Colts do with Dallas Clark), he ate CBs for lunch.
I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

with our two te's
you could pretty much run the equivalent of a 4wr set. Olsen and Clark are athletic enough.

That's basically my point.
Because Clark and Olsen ARE the best WRs on the team right now. Line them up with Booker and WR #2, and we should be able to run the ball and pass off of play action in that set.

I expect most of our rushing yards to come behind Tait
off tackle on the right side of the line… with Clark over there… and Booker blocking downfield.
Unless we decide to do something smart… like signing LeCharles Bentley to play guard. That could make us so much friggin better… I can’t even explain it in words.

Everyone should go back and read
why the author of that posts list Desmond Clark so low. Check the comments. It is an unbelievable piece of garbage.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
