Bears Behind the Scenes

The official site has up an interesting interview with Bears equipment manager Tony Medlin.  Nothing real special, just some behind the scenes stuff on getting the Bears ready.

Has a player ever asked for a jersey number that’s retired, like No. 34 for instance?

That has happened. Someone asked me for a 28 [retired for Willie Galimore], never a 34. Most guys know about Walter Payton’s number. That’s a given.

That was an interesting interview

I found that first answer interesting, about how he lets Vets resolve the issue of when two want the same number. He “let’s them talk” to one another. Oh, to be a fly on that wall! That’d be a youtube I’d pay to see (not very much, mind you, but I throw a little jack to see).

I'm not so mean. I wouldn't ever go out to hurt anybody deliberately - unless it was, you know, important, like a league game or something. - Dick Butkus

It would have been great

to get a name if somebody had asked for Walter’s number.
