George Bush has a better approval rating than Cedric Benson
The Chicago Tribune is running an online poll following Cedric Benson's most recent run in with the law. To say he is not fairing well would be a understatement.
Of just over 11,200 votes 87.1 percent would like to see Benson cut.
Maybe be a bit rash, but you can at least see where they are coming from.
I don't know what the Bears are going to do, but they have to do something be it fine and suspend him or perhaps drop him down in the depth chart, but they need to make some decision before Roger Godell decides to step in.

of all people wcg
you should know that this wont change the current depth chart. Lovie wants to run more than ever this year and he cant do that with ap and garrett for a year. If benson gets in an accident that was alcohol related, I can see a severe punishment. I just dont see it in this case. I dont know who is telling him to deny these tests, ie agent( both times he did).
This seems like an issue that everyone can overlook and I think needs to.
these polls and blogs almost make it appear as if people want this guy to be done in the nfl and use any chance to chant their hatred towards him. Football wise i just dont get what he has done so wrong.
Double standard? Hell, yes.
What Benson has done, like you have said, isn’t serious enough to guarantee dismissal in the NFL. But, the standard for dismissal is simply different from one player to the next. Pac Man is going to get reinstated and slotted into a corner and returner position for the Cowboys and he was, among other things, complicit in a crime that left a man paralyzed. Is that worse than Benson getting two DWIs in less than 2 months? Most certainly. However, there is one HUGE difference – Benson sucks. You can put up with the distraction, if the upside on the field is there, but with Benson it simply is not. Not only do I think he’ll be cut, I think Benson will be completely out of the NFL in two years. (there is always that one team looking to take a flyer on a wash-out like Cedric)

He has been
a bad running back on the field. He can’t catch or pass block, and he’s not that good a runner.
He was only still on the roster because he was a high pick and got a large signing bonus. Benson did Bears fans a favor by doing these stupid things to get himself cut. He was only going to undeservedly taking up playing time and a roster spot with mediocre play.
DEJESUS!!!
But allegedly almost hitting a pedestrian and certainly endangering an NFL career is nothing to smile about for Benson, and his second alcohol-related arrest in five weeks is no laughing matter.

wow, good work dumbass benson, almost as bad as the dumbasses saying a dwi isn’t a big deal.
buh - bye
After the boat incident, I was more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. But regardless of what the truth of this latest incident is, he should never have put himself in that position to begin with – never. He’s amply demonstrated that doesn’t care, time to move on.
pissing away a career
seriously, this guy is the next ricky williams. too busy with his off field shit to be ready to play ball. i’m perfectly fine with AP/Forte/Wolfe…it means i won’t have to root for a guy who continues to make horrible decisions off the field and underachieve on the field.
they cut Tank, Tank was good, Benson has not been good…it is logical to think they will cut Benson.
by no means
am i saying its ok for anyone to drink and drive. The point i have been trying to make is that in the offseason of any sport, players make mistakes. Whatever job you do, a dui does not warrant loosing your job. Its a bad choice that needs to be handle internally. Supspend him for a game or two, fine him, but you cant take away his livelihood based on these circumstances.
tank i get. it just wasnt a dui. The bears have a lot more invested in benson to logically conclude that he will remain the starter. Again, a dui should be handled with some form of punishment but so should have leaving the scene of an accident in the middle of the morning. The only difference i see is that LB55 is alot more liked.
They are
not taking away his livelihood, he is giving it away.
Nobody from the Bears told him to go boozing on his boat. nobody from teh Bears told him to be out drinking and driving at 3am weeks after getting arrested for boating while drunk.
The only reason he didn’t kill someone the other night is pure chance. If someone was in the wrong place at the wrong time he would have killed them. Plain and simple.
Any efforts to minimize the seriousness of drinking and driving only provides insight into your judgement and maturity.
DEJESUS!!!
dont get me wrong I agree with you but
your point that if some one were at the wrong place at the wrong time can be said about anyone driving. if by chance anyone is in the wrong place at the wrong time they can be hit by a car.

oh
and there are plenty of job’s where a dwi could end your career, and many where it would definately.
