Is Kevin Jones worth a look?

I've been reading reports that Kevin Jones worked out and four teams took a look - Miami, Green Bay, Pittsburgh and Detroit.  There is a report that Tampa may sign him.  All these teams are pretty solid at running back...we are putting all of our faith in a rookie?  Isn't Kevin Jones worth a look?  We could probably sign him cheap, he reminds me of a slasher like Thomas Jones and has speed.  Obviously after the knee surgeries, it's a risk, but I think it might be worth it?

If you go by the fact that

only 3 teams other than Detroit looked at him, no.

I don't think we want to add another RB to the roster

As we’re probably only carrying 3 when the season starts.
Forte
Peterson
Wolfe

Now, if you wanted to look at Davenport… and use him as a FB… that’s a different story. I’m all for that.

I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

The Bears have zeo backs

Forte isn’t signed
Peterson is a special teams player
Wolfe is better suited to be a jockey, than a NFL player. He certainly isn’t a running back.

forte

will sign. any 2nd round rookie virtually guaranteed a starting spot who doesn’t sign before training camp is a complete moron. besides that, pointing out that he isn’t a running back on our team because he is unsigned is ridiculous. you can point out that he has no experience, that he played at a weak college program, whatever…but at least acknowledge that he is a running back on the team.

Whatever.

Peterson is an important part of the team… he’s not going anywhere. No, he’s not a guy you want carrying the rock 250 times a year, but he’s an important role player and our special teams captain (especially with Brendan Ayebandejodsfe5u&^&ygj gone now).

Wolfe, when used properly, will be a very effective change of pace in the backfield. You don’t give Wolfe the football at your own 1 yard line and ask him to run up the middle against the Vikings awesome DT tandem and top run defense in the league. That’s just pain old stupid, and Ron Turner should’ve had his playbook yanked from him at that moment. However, when Wolfe gets the ball in his hands in the open field, he makes good things happen. He’s very elusive.

"when used properly"

the problem i have with this phrase is that there is no definiton given for “properly” and big time wolfe supporters can just keep leaning on the “he’s not being used properly” although i agree that wolfe on the 1 is never a good idea.

i don’t think we have the type of coaching staff that can handle niche players.

there is a lack of speed

with forte and peterson. any team can line up everyone in the box cause they aren’t going to be afraid of either one of them running past them on the outside. wolfe is only going to be in there on 3rd down as a “scat back”. atleast kevin jones may provide some sense of possible breakaway speed. if benson wasn’t cut, weren’t we going into the season with 4 RB’s?

Unknown

I think the problem with our running game is the unknown. We don’t know what Forte can do, we don’t really know what Wolfe can do either. I’m willing to cut him some slack, he was the third RB getting no reps on a bad offense last year. We do know what we have in Peterson a decent all around running back who can be mildly productive. We also have a couple of other RB on the roster, but we have no idea what they can do either. I think it would be smart to bring in a veteran like Davenport, Dayne or Jones for a small contract, then keep the best 4 or however many RBs.
