Bears Training Camp Video

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Watch these and tell me what you think. It seems pretty obvious that our QBs are wildly inconsistent day to day, but our WRs seem to be making some good cathes. It makes you wonder how much the corners are actually jamming the WR in practice for them to be so open. Biggest surprise for me? Brandon Rideau, Mike Hass, and Earl Bennett. They've all caught everything, Bennett especially with some great catches on poorly thrown balls. Mind you, Hester hasn't caught a pass yet so this will only get more interesting. Based on the increased reps Nick Hill got on Day 3 with Hanie getting zero, it looks like the coaching staff has taken a shine to the kid (who I absolutely loved coming out of SIU).

Nice!

The WRs do look good, although I’m not sure how much these videos are edited. Forte looks quick and fast through hole. That’s definitely a good sign for him and the offense.

Not bad

Orton seems to be a bit more inconsistent than Rex, who actually doesn’t look too bad (although yes, we have no idea how much editing took place). The receivers do all look really good, especially Rideau. Forte’s also looking really nice with a very quick burst, and it looks like he’s able to find the holes pretty quickly. Although this is just training camp, this offense looks better than I had hoped for.

editing isn't really the issue

grossman has always looked good in practice, every year.

notice the complete lack of a rush?

hopfully the writers are smart enough to not give us the same “offense looks dynamic” bullshit as last year.

grossman will win the job

and our first series in the brand new oil stadium will be this:

fumbled snap
false start
jones/forte/peterson 2 yard run
grossman passes to mckie, no gain
punt

or.....

Grossman to Bradley on five yard slant-reading blitz
forte draw play for 3
Play action pass to dez up the seam for a 1st.

Grossman...

hasn’t always looked good in training camp. Two years ago (SB season) he looked pretty bad, but last year he did perform well. The difference with him will come with him being able to step in the face of pressure. It’s always been his achilles heel. If somehow Orton wins the job, the Bears offense will be in more trouble than with Rex. It’s kind of sad.

but that was the first training camp

he wasn’t injured, or so was the excuse. still wasn’t bad enough for orton to take it.

how is the guy who can’t handle pressure better? i assume you mean orton is that much worse?

Orton

What I meant was Grossman’s upside is better than Orton’s. If Rex can consistantly step up in the pocket instead of back, then he’s got the upper hand on Kyle. KO doesn’t have the arm to pass down the field in this offense. There’s too much emphasis on the medium to long passes in Turner’s offense for Kyle to be effective.

see hester, bomb to

in the orleans game.

although that has always been the espn analysis knock, not sure how true it is.

NO

i was at the game and Orton bombed that ball and put it dead b/w two defenders perfectly for Hester. I don’t think the offense is better off or worse w/ either Orton or Grossman starting. Both have experience(good and bad) and both have won w/ the Bears. I believe what Lovie and JA need to do is watch thru training camp and the preseason and pick which one they firmly believe has the best shot at the brightest future w/ the team and let the other go(basically what Jax did last year w/ Leftwich). It was a risky move but it paid off, hopefully the same will happen w/ us.
