Devin Hester Signs New Deal With Bears

UPDATE: THE CONTRACT EXTENDS HESTER THROUGH THE 2013 SEASON.  IT IS WORTH 30 MILLION WITH 15 UP FRONT AND WITH INCENTIVES COULD REACH 40 MILLION.

Devin Hester was the last remaining issue the Bears had left to deal with aside from figuring out just who would be starting for us.  Now they have checked that one off the list.

Devin Hester and the Bears have agreed on a new 4-year extension making him a Bear through 2012.

The two-time Pro Bowler stands just two kick return touchdowns shy from tying the all-time NFL career record of 13 set by Brian Mitchell (14 seasons, 1070 returns). In two seasons, Hester has 89 punt returns for 1,251 yards, seven touchdowns and a 14.1 average - highest in NFL history. On 63 kickoff returns Hester has 1,462 yards, four touchdowns and a 23.2 average. The Riviera Beach, FL native has also recorded a 108-yard missed field goal return touchdown (tying a then-NFL record for longest play in league history) and a 92-yard kickoff return score on the opening play of Super Bowl XLI.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but I cannot recall a time I was as interested in seeing what the terms are.

Someone will have the terms

in the next few hours. Just wait for ESPN, SI, The Trib and the Sun Times to get all this through. You know John Clayton will have it because he is the friggin’ man on these things.

This is good news now the team and management can be completely focused on 2008 and the starters and JA and Cliff Stein can look towards who needs to be looked at for extentions following this years. All the contract stuff is finally over for this offseason! Good news! Now get back to practice Hester: I bet his “tight hamstring” suddenly feels better for Monday’s practice..haha!

Bold Prediction: Orton will be the starter in week 1.

I've been looking into that myself

I am not sure what caused the change.

smart deal

he has to reach escalators of that of a #1 receiver or he won’t get all the money that is in the deal. we lock him up and only pay him a boatload if he earns it, good deal.

Monday?

His hamstring was fine right after he signed the new deal. He practiced and I think we all know the hamstring story was made up. He prolly told JA he would show up but not practice until the deal was done. JA said fine but we will show u with a sore hamstring so we dont appear to negotiate with a holdout. I am glad it worked out…seemed to fool some people anyway.

Hesterized

The deal seems to be very team friendly. Hester will earn his money on the field as a WR. I truly believe he’s capable of becoming a very good #2 or a decent #1 with game-breaking ability. All these deals lately are a pre-cursor for next year when Angelo will be very aggressive in acquiring a QB through the trade market, as well as early in the draft.
