Josh Beekman Showing He Has The Goods
During the Bears pre season game with the Kansas City Chiefs he pulled off something that not many do. He played a full pre season game.
He played left guard due to the injury to Terrence Metcalf, then moved over to center when Olin Kruetz's day was done.
Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith said Sunday that he likes what he's seeing from second-year guard Josh Beekman
We need all the help we can get on the line, if Beekman can work his way into the starting line up or provide depth at more than one spot that is gravy for us.

I hope Lovie isn't just talking him up.
I saw him get shoved to the ground on one play and it looked like he was way over powered. It was kind of embarrassing. I didn’t really watch the line during the game, so he may have played the rest of the game pretty well. I only was watching to see if the Chiefs were getting pressure, but not individual efforts.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
Well... the response from Lovie is typical Lovie-fluff
But, all in all… I hope Beekman plays like a solid pro this year. We need it desperately.
It just amazes me how Lovie and his staff will keep a guy at the bottom of the depth chart, and never play him… like he’s in the dog house. Then, all of the sudden an injury happens, the guy’s forced to play, and you start hearing Lovie say things like, “We really like _.”
It’s just lame. Heck, I can take you back just a few months, when Lovie was talking up Mark Bradley… saying things like “Mark Bradley is our #1 WR,” after Berrian signed with the Vikings. Yeah right…

I don't really care what depth he can provide.
If he can’t beat out Metcalf, who cares if he’s good enough to back him up? And backing up Kreutz is happy and all, but if Kreutz, the best lineman, goes down, does it really matter who is backing him up?
Don’t get me wrong, if Metcalf was someone on the level of Kreutz (or even Tait), then this would be good news…
If we can't find ANYONE on the roster
who can beat out Metcalf… then, well… we’ve got a bunch a shmucks scouting lineman.

Ditto
I’m tired of hearing Lovie signing the praises of some under performing draftee who can’t play a lick. I know it’s a little harsh, but Angelo/Smith have yet to groom a lineman since they’ve been with the Bears. What a joke!? Everyone says Columbo is not the same tackle since his injury, but he sure looks fine playing for a SB contender in Dallas. I’m still so peeved at them giving up on him after waiting for him to come back from his injury. Why not release him before? Absolutely rediculous!

In case you forgot
at the time of his release, Columbo looked absolutely horrible on the field in pre-season vs 2nd and 3rd string. Was he still recovering? Yes. Very likely that it affected his performance. But, the Bears had given him sooo much time, that something had to give.
I recall him playing late in the 2nd half of a pre-season game, and during a running play, one of our RBs who never even made the roster ran to Columbo’s side, and actually grabbed a hold of Columbo’s jersey from behind and shoved him into a defender in order to create some running room. That’s how pathetic he looked! And no, I’m not making this stuff up. It happened.

That's fine and dandy
but they could’ve assessed whether or not he was “recovering” from his injury a little bit better. Obviously he needed a little more time, not much more than what they gave him in the first place. It just really bothers me that they almost always make the wrong move with offensive players. It’s more than a trend.
