Who Will Be A Starter First?
The Bears still have not solidified a number of their skill positions. Looking at the names below, who do you think will become a starter first at some point this season. Depth chart rankings are approximate.
Caleb Hanie QB Depth Chart: 3rd
Marty Booker WR Depth Chart: 3rd or 4th
Kevin Jones QB Depth Chart: Unknown (likely 2nd when ready)
Mark Bradley WR Depth Chart: 5th
Jamar Williams LB Depth Chart: 2nd (can play all 3 LB spots)
Craig Steltz FS Depth Chart: 2nd or 3rd

The battle between Rex and Kyle must be worse than we all thought...
If Kevin Jones was brought in to be number 2 on the QB depth chart. I’m sure the Bears know what they are doing, but I seriously question this move.
Kick it to me... I'm open!

I voted for Williams....
…in the misguided hope that he somehow starts out performing Hillenmeyer and gives this fan something to look forward to this year.

just curious?
why so much hate for Hillenmeyer?

i think a lot of it
isn’t HATE for Hillenmeyer but love for Williams cause the guy is a freak. He is unbelievably raw though and Hillenmeyer knows his x’s and o’s which is why he continues to be a steadily average starting linebacker for this team. I like Hillenmeyer but if Williams can put it all together we will easily have the best linebacking corps in the league (if we don’t already).

totally understandable
but just like you said… with the caliber of LBs the Bears already have there aren’t a lot of guys in the league that wouldn’t look “just average” next to Urlacher and Briggs.

Safety first
Steltz will be the first to start, see the field or whatever. Brown, McGowan, and Payne have all had a knack for getting serious injuries. Payne’s was sort of a “freak” accident last year, but not the other two. I hope I’m wrong.

that is a GOOD thing though.
I really like the Steltz pick.
Daniel Manning has top flight size, speed, and strength yet he’s TERRIBLE at safety because he’s too dumb to ever know where he’s supposed to be.
Mike Brown was never the biggest or fastest safety around but he’s always around the ball and never out of place hence why he’s superman (when he’s healthy).
Steltz is supposedly a smart guy, so hopefully he’ll be the next guy to play like a beast just cause he’s always in the right spot at the right time.
If he can do that and Brown can stay healthy (He’s DUE! healthy for 4 years then injured for 4…It’s time for another 4 year healthy stint before retirement!), then our Secondary could be best in the league.
