Marty Booker May Be The Odd Man Out
Going into the pre season many positions were up for grabs. The one thing I was pretty sure of was that Marty Booker would be a lock for a receiver spot. Maybe not. The Bears don't have a lot of experience, but have a lot of unproven talent and a load of speed. Booker thinks he may not make the roster.
''I haven't gotten many plays in any of the games,'' Booker said. ''I'm trying to figure out what is going on. I've asked them and 'they have a plan.' I don't know what it is. It's secretive around here.''
If the Bears carry five receivers they could be Brandon Lloyd, Rashied Davis, Devin Hester, Earl Bennett, and Mark Bradley.
I do have to say I like Booker and would like to see him on the team, but you go with who gives you the best chance and who works best with your QB.
On the whole "we have a plan" thing, I'm tired of that way of doing business. If they guy is on the edge, tell him maybe he turns it up. Otherwise let him go.

I think it would be a mistake
he’s the only proven receiver on our team. If Hester and Lloyd falter, we’ll have a bunch of unknowns getting passes thrown their way. We gotta keep Booker, I don’t care if we’ll have 6 receivers.

I disagree
Booker has not shown anything lately and all he is proven is that he is washed up. If this was a productive veteran nearing the end of his career I would say keep him, but I think his skills have eroded and he cannot fill any other needs. The young receiver by committee by approach while risky would still be our best option I think. Hester, Bennett, and Davis are untouchable which would leave Lloyd and Bradley. I really don’t think we should give up on Bradley, for wathever reason he has been in the doghouse when he has been healthy (which has been very seldom), however when he has seen the field he makes plays. From what I have seen of Lloyd he has been productive catching the ball and also been good soldier (playing ST, blocking kicks).

Keep Booker
He’s a good vetern presence and I think that he can still play well.
I agree about the whole secretive business approach too. I think that it turns off potenial FA signings when they hear about it and I think it is a poor way of doing business. Tell a guy where he stands, let him try harder. I think that this team might need a new coach and/or GM after this season especially if its as bad as some on here say it will be. This whole secretive way of doing business I think we will find as the season goes on will grow weary on the players and they will not respond to this staff if thats how they are going to do things.
This is nothing new: I remember Craig Krenzel saying after he went to the Bengels that the Bears coaches never let him know where he stood and that they told him days before he was traded or cut that he would be with the team.

Lovies a player coach
theres no easy way to tell a guy hes no longer needed. I think he likes to wait in order to let them continue to play out and perhaps show the staff something. He wants to give guys an opportunity to play enough so he can fairly evaluate and then move on. Its a business after all and hes trying to assure himself whether or not these guys fit his system.
he wasnt crazy about booker to begin with, so its no real suprise. he drafted bradley and history tells us that draft picks hang around alot longer then free agents. Bradley has more up side, more speed and when healthy can make plays similar to berrian. in my opinion if there is a decision btw bradley and booker, its a no brainer.

Keep in mind though...
…that might be all that Booker is willing to say, when in fact he knows more. That’s a pretty tight locker room, especially under Smith.
Besides the obvious - Go Irish.
Z. He doesn't need an exclamation point. He is one.

Don't forget about Chad Hutchinson
He was supposedly our starting QB and brought in Orton during his SUCCESSFUL stint….I swear this guys head even looked like a football:

What happened to
Monk? That other wide out we drafted.

I don't think Monk was drafted
he did sign as a free agent but looks like he is nothing more than a practice squad receiver at least for a few more years

I don't know they're so sold on Bradley
b/c I’ve yet to see anything other than “potential”… shouldn’t he be at the point where his potential needs to become production?
Of course, keeping Booker a true veteran receiver would make sense… I doubt its what happens.
I think it’s just his face. - dat cubfan daver

After watching the last game it looks like
Rashied Davis needs to be on the field he may not be a great receiver but Orton likes throwing to him and thats what we need more than anything
Hester also needs to be on the field he hasn’t shown a lot this preseason but he is still our best offensive weapon because he gives us so many options reverses, screens/spot passes, fades, slants the guy is straight up lightning please play him Lovie
There is no clear cut #3 receiver between Bennett, Lloyd, and Bradley but they are all better than Booker and 2 of those 3 should be our 3 and 4 receivers w/ Clark/Olsen playing as the 5 receiver if we need one I would expect to see Clark/Olsen split out more this year anyhow w/ the lack of receiving talent we have

I watched the game again today....
And on our first TD drive, right before Orton connected with Davis, Hester dropped a pass in stride… in mid-field at the 10 yard line that would’ve easily been a TD had he caught it. Nobody was in position to tackle him.

That was and continues to be the main knock against Hester
is his hands aren’t as soft as the coaching staff would like them to be from a primary receiver. Lovie insists he’s come a long way and his hands are much better than they were last year. I’m willing to take the word of the guy who seems him workout daily and keep in mind that this is still preseason and he hasn’t had a lot of passes thrown his way in a game situation yet.

You're going to take Lovie's word for it?
Oh brother… have you learned anything?

Then who?
Whose word should we take? Yours or maybe another guy who has seen only a handful of plays? I’m gonna tkae Lovie’s word first.

Lovie's the same man who told us Chad Hutchinson was his QB
Then cut him two weeks later.
Why would you ever listen to man who only speaks in “coach-speak.”

he may be because its the bears, but all hester has show on offense is the ability to run straight up the field. unles i missed it,none of those other plays you’ve mention have produced much of anything.
you guys are handing hester the keys to this thing without him showing much other than he is fast.
