Bears Release Six

Mandatory roster limits will have teams getting rid of people over the next 2 days working to get their rosters down to 53 for the start of the regular season.

The Bears have released offensive linemen Tyler Reed,Cody Balogh and Ryan Poles.

Given the current state of the offensive line I was a bit surprised about Tyler Reed going.  I had read there were still those that thought he was good enough to make the team.  I can only hope the Bears will be looking at other team's castoffs for any potential backups.

The Bears have also release WR Mike Hass.  I know a lot of people around here were high on him, but this in not unexpected.  The last roster spot for receivers is believed to  currently be between Mark Bradley and Brandon Rideau.

Also release were fullback Lousaka Polite and defensive end Daniel Bazuin.

bauzin???

i think a lot of us didn’t get that pick at the time, considering our talent at the DE position. cutting him makes it more obvious how bad that pick was. same with okwo. both were reaches that DID NOT address obvious needs.

The story goes

that Bauzin just can’t get or stay healthy.

It's gotta be more than that...

…because neither can Dvorcek.

Perhaps he simply didn’t perform well?

Besides the obvious - Go Irish.

Maybe so,

but we’ll go back to our original argument: Dvoracek has a ton of potential. Not that Bauzin didn’t, but he got hurt early and didn’t come back around often.

Taking that one step farther

Dusty was a starter. Bazuin never worked his way up.

When has DD started?

This preseason really cannot count, I mean c’mon.

ChiFan – you do realize you could swap names in your post? I mean Bazuin waws taken at the same point in the draft, only one year later correct?

I think what happened here is that his knee won’t let him play at the level they hoped for, whereas they do still see potential in DD. Bazuin probably just got healthy enough to cut.

That’s VERY disappointing for a 62nd pick in a draft from last year – which was higher than they drafted DD.

Besides the obvious - Go Irish.

....

No, they weren’t.

Bazuin was a 2nd round pick, drafted as the #62nd selection. Dvoracek was drafted in the 3rd round, #73.

I agree that Bazuin’s injuries caused him to get cut. While I want to give DD another year (hopefully one that he can be healthy in so we can see his talent), if he gets injured again, he should go.

I'M A MAN! I'M 22!

and

Dvoracek was a starter in game one against San Diego last year. He was doing well until he was injured.

by ethan a on Aug 29, 2008 5:54 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I personllay...

…don’t consider 1 game in 32 a ‘starter.’ Don’t get me wrong, I want him to now go 17 for 48, but he has yet to contribute much on the field to for this team since he was taken. So he’s not that different than Bazuin on one level.

Besides the obvious - Go Irish.

Not sure what you...

are disagreeing with: by ‘higher’ I do mean higher in the draft – 62nd over 73rd which is the lower pick.

Not sure what you're disagreeing with...

…Bazuin at 62nd is the higher pick than DD at #73, at least when ‘higher’ means earlier like it does in this context.

If Tyler Reed didn't make the team,

he really must not have been good considering our OL troubles.

Was anyone else thinking at the time...

…the Bears should have traded their two 3rd rounders to move up four or five spots once Trent Edwards started "dropping"+? I’d rather have Edwards than Garrett Wolfe. Oh, and Brandon Jackson instead of ______. (I’m not a Husker fan but live here so I was pulling for him.)

Angelo has hit a few homeruns in drafts (Briggs, Vashar, Hester so far… and to a lesser extent Alex Brown, Adrian Peterson and Mark Anderson), but he’s missed A LOT, too. It should be noted that Harris and Berrian are quite good for their draft spots, but he got rid of them for nothing.

It’s time to face it. Angelo sucks.

I'd need to see more

from Trent Edwards. He may be an improvement over what we have, but I don’t feel like he is that big of an upgrade.

Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!

by Adam T on Aug 29, 2008 4:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Because Wolfe and Okwo are so valuable?

That you’d rather have Hanie instead of Edwards?

by tyger1147 on Aug 29, 2008 4:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sadly Tyger I am with you

I am a huge Garrett Wolfe fan but I must say you’re right, Edwards would have been better. I agree its time for Angelo to move on.

by GallopingGhost on Aug 29, 2008 4:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's not like I think Edwards is a long-term solution.

Edwards has guy-who-rose-late-because-he-has-prototypical-size bust written all over him. But Wolfe and Hanie, clearly, will never be starters other than out of desperation. Okwo… has he even played enough to make a projection?

The Bears are in bad, bad trouble, and I think the vast majority of us here no that there is no way they should be this year.

Angelo...

And let’s not forget that Benson is the 2nd biggest bust after Leaf at this point.

Nope

Not that big….

Alex Smith?

1 more shitty second round pick to go (bradley)

way to go JA

How can anyone think that Wolfe is goin to be a good pro?

He looks like a high school kid playin against these guys and he gets knocked down by EVERYONE. He was arm tackled last night while a Browns player was fighting off a block and on another play he ran into another Brown and fell flat on his back. He was a waste of a high pick and definitely should’ve been cut.

Terrence Metcalf sucks donkey balls...

And we can’t draft a guy (Tyler Reed), who can beat out Metcalf for a roster spot? Pathetic.

I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

Michael Bush would have been a better gamble.

Lorenzo Booker. Marshall Yanda. Brandon Jackson. Trent Edwards. Antonio Pittman. Quentin Moses. Jay Moore. Great? No. Sure, most are misses after only ONE SEASON, but how many were cut and how many are so obviously NOT going to be anything other than a 3rd down back AT BEST? I have no idea how any of those guys have “turned out” after just their rookie year

by tyger1147 on Aug 29, 2008 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's too early

What’s the Marv Levy quote, I’m not excited about this year’s rookies, I’m excited about last year’s rookies.

The fact that the Bears have cut two of their top 4 picks from the 2007 draft means that it looks like 2007 will be a disaster of a draft. Coming off ‘05 and ’06 the Bears have little to no new talent at the moment. And why 8-8 is probably the best they’ll be this year.

by Otter7 on Aug 29, 2008 9:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

They better

keep Bradley. They’d be crazy just to let him go. I understand the Bazuin move. He just wasn’t ever healtyhy and from what I read it looked to be between keeping him or Toeina (spelling?). Since Toeina played last year (and actually did a decent job), I see the move.
